Basic Information On Nitoman
Nitoman is used in the treatment of hyperkinetic movement disorders such as Tardive Hemiballismus, Huntington's Choreaand Senile Chorea, Dyskinesia. It depletes dopamine and displaces spiperone from striatal binding sites in vitro, and blocking dopaminergic inhibition of prolactin release in vitro and in vivo. It selectively blocks vesicular monoaminetransporter 2. Its medicinal action in movement disorders is the result of its action on monoamine storage in brain. However, the Nitoman drug is not used for the treatment of dyskinetic/choreiform movements induced by Levodopa.
Precautions/ Side Effects Of Nitoman
Nitoman contains tetrabenazine which has caused side effects in at least 1% people taking this medication. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience irritability, low blood pressure, drooling, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, confusion, anxiety or nervousness, upper abdominal pain or signs of Parkinsonism. Most of these signs are manageable if brought under medical supervision while some go away on their own with time. You should not perform risky tasks or drive, if you are taking brand or generic Nitoman as you may not be able to perform these tasks safely.
Ensure that you inform you doctor about any other medications you are taking, if you have any allergies, and whether you are pregnant or breast feeding. If you become pregnant while on brand or generic Nitoman, contact your doctor immediately. Tetrabenazine passes into breast milk and may affect your baby. Consult with your doctor if you should continue breast feeding. If you are above 65, your doctor would adjust the dose accordingly.

If you have been instructed to take it in a specific schedule and you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If, however, it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as regular. Don’t double up without doctor's permission. An overdose of this medication can cause side effects like hypo-tension, drowsiness and sweating therefore get your dose adjusted by your doctor if you suspect an overdose.
