General Information on Triquilar
Triquilar is a combination of 2 drugs with the generic names levonorgestril and ethinyl estradiol. Both these drugs are forms of naturally occurring female hormones. While ethinyl estradiol is a form of estrogen, levonorgestril is a form of progestin.
You can buy Triquilar online or from a pharmacy to prevent an unwanted pregnancy if recommended by your doctor since it is a birth control pill. The drug works by preventing the process of ovulation and changing the uterine lining as well as the cervical mucus to make it difficult for the sperm to reach the egg, fertilize it, and allow the fertilized egg to attach itself to the uterus.
Triquilar may also be taken for the treatment of acne in women who are 14 years of age or older. It is also helpful in regulating the menstrual cycle.
Side effects of Triquilar
One of the most common side effects reported with Triquilar is light menstrual bleeding or a mild stomach upset. These side effects are mostly reported during the first three months of taking this birth control pill, after which they usually wane over time. These side effects are usually tolerable. Nevertheless, you must inform your doctor at once if the side effects persist or worsen.
The serious side effects of Triquilar include lumps in the breasts, headaches, painful menstrual bleeding, increase in blood pressure, and problems in the liver or pancreas.
Dosage of Triquilar
You can buy Triquilar as a 21 day or a 28 day pack. If you purchase the 21 day pack, you need to take one tablet per day for 21 days, after which you must maintain a gap of 7 days. After the 7th day, you may start with the next pack. If you buy the 28 day pack, you need to take on tablet a day for 21 days, followed by one specialized ‘reminder’ pill for the next 7 days. After the 7th reminder pill is taken, you can get started on the second course.
Triquilar packs contain tablets in varying strengths and colors that need to be taken on specific days. Your doctor would usually explain the complete process in detail when you are prescribed this pill. However, if you have any doubts about the method of treatment, you may consult your pharmacist or doctor or refer to the patient information leaflet that comes along with the pack.
In most cases, Triquilar treatment begins on the first day of the menstrual period. However, your doctor may advise you to take the drug on the first Sunday after your period begins. For the best results, take the tablet approximately the same time each day (preferably after dinner or before you sleep). It takes time (approximately 7 days) for Triquilar to show any effect. Until then, you would need to follow another method of birth control as well.
Interactions
Certain medications may reduce the efficacy of hormonal birth control pills like Triquilar. You must tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking before you buy Triquilar. If you are already on Triquilar, inform your doctor about it before being prescribed any other drug.
