General Information on Suprax

Suprax is an antibiotic used for treating different types of bacterial infections in human body. Its generic name is Cefixime, and it belongs to the group of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotics.

Your doctor will advise you to take Suprax with food or within 30 minutes of taking a meal. The medicine is available in chewable tablet form as well as in extended release tablet form. If you are using chewable tablets, you should chew it completely before swallowing it. But if you are using extended release tablet form of the medicine, you will have to swallow it whole without chewing, breaking, dissolving or crushing it.

You will have to complete the course of treatment, even if your symptoms diminish before that. The symptoms of the infection might have been diminished, but infection must not have been treated completely. If you stop taking the medicine before the completion of full period of prescription, the infection may return.

Interactions

Usually, your doctor will not recommend you to buy Suprax along with an antacid. But if taking an antacid is inevitable, your doctor will advise you not to take the antacid within one hour of taking Suprax. Antacids may make absorption of Cefixime harder.

Some other medicines that may interact with Suprax include Aspirin, Augmentin, Allopurinol, Flexeril, Keflex, Ibuprofen, Fluticasone Nasal, Ciprofloxacin and Cymbalta. Inform your doctor beforehand if you are taking any of these medicines at present.
