General Information on Razadyne
Razadyne is a psychiatric medication given for the treatment of moderate or mild Alzheimer’s disease. The generic name of Razadyne is galantamine.
Razadyne prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine, which is a chemical found in the brain. Patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease are known to have low levels of this particular chemical, which also plays an important role in the patient’s ability to retain memories, reason and think.
You may also buy Razadyne for treating other forms of dementia or psychiatric conditions that impair the memory. You can buy this medication only if it has been specifically prescribed by the doctor.
Side effects of Razadyne
You must inform your doctor if you have any allergies, or if you suffer from heart disease, urination problems, stomach ulcer, heart rhythm disorder, stomach bleeding, asthma, seizure disorders, liver disease or kidney disease. If taken under the above medical conditions, Razadyne may cause certain adverse effects.
You must stop taking Razadyne at once and seek immediate medical attention if you suffer from severe chest pain, bloody stools, slow pulse, decreased urination, bloody cough, unusual weakness or confusion, hot and dry skin and abnormal and extreme thirst. If you are scheduled for a surgery, you must inform the performing doctor about your Razadyne usage well beforehand. If you have stopped taking Razadyne, you must resume your treatment with this medication only after talking to your doctor.
Other mild side effects that may occur on taking Razadyne include mild headache, weight loss, loss of appetite, flatulence, vomiting, lightheadedness, tiredness, nausea and dizziness. In rare cases, patients may also experience an allergy to Razadyne, which would be characterized by a swollen face or throat, breathing problem, chest tightness, and the appearance of hives.
Dosage of Razadyne
You must take Razadyne only as per the dosage prescribed by the doctor. A dosage larger than prescribed may not have a better effect, and it may result in an overdose. The dosage prescribed by your doctor may be changed according to your medical condition and response to treatment.
You may buy Razadyne in the tablet and oral solution form. The intermediate release tablet is available in the following strengths- Razadyne 4mg, Razadyne 8mg and Razadyne 12mg. The oral solution form of this medication contains 4mg of Razadyne in each ml.
The recommended daily dose of Razadyne in the tablet form ranges between 16 and 32mg, given two times during the day. However, 32mg per day is not well tolerated as compared to lower doses, and it does not provide any clear boost in efficacy either. Therefore, the daily dosage usually never reaches 32mg; it stays within 16mg and 24mg in most cases.
The recommended starting dose of Razadyne, in oral solution as well as tablet form, is 4mg twice a day, which amounts to a daily dose of 8mg per day. This can then be increased after at least four weeks to the maintenance dose of a single 8mg a day.
Interactions
Razadyne may also interact with other medications to cause sudden and severe side effects. You must tell your doctor about other medications you are taking before and after you begin taking Razadyne
