Periostat Information
Cheap Periostat is an antibiotic classified under a group of drugs called tetracyclines. It works by supressing the activity of an enzyme called collagenase. It is used in patients with gum inflammation called periodontitis which follows some dental procedures like scaling and root canal treatment. It is not used in the treatment of bacterial or viral infections but in proper attachment of the tooth to the gum and breakdown of excess gum tissue.
Periostat Side Effects and Precautions
Doxycycline may produce certain side effects. These include diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting etc. If these symptoms prolong, then you need to be treated by your doctor. If you find any unusual symptoms, such as photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to the sun), pain while swallowing, blurring of vision, severe headache, increase/decrease in urine quantity or dark colored urine, then immediate medical intervention is required.
A severe intestinal problem due to a resistant bacteria called Clostridium difficile, results in a diarrhea either during treatment or many weeks after stopping treatment with Doxycycline. Taking any anti-diarrheal or pain killer will only worsen the same. Prolonged intake of generic Periostat may also lead to an oral thrush or a vaginal yeast infection. Any symptom of allergy like red rashes, itching, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, throat or eyelids are to be reported. Speak to your doctor before you buy Periostat.
Dosage Information For Periostat
Periostat 20 mg twice a day with an interval of 12 hours is prescribed as an adjunct after dental procedure and root plan treatments. The treatment may continue for about 9 months. Drinking enough quantities of water would be a wise thing to do, as it would wash down the medicine and bring down the risk of esophageal irritation or gastric ulcerations. Discount Periostat is offered in a strength of 20 mg by North Drug Mart.
