Description of Optimmune
Optimmune is used to treat keratoconjunctivitis Sica in dogs. The generic name of the medicine is Cyclosporine.
You must buy Optimmune as per the prescription of the veterinarian. Read all the instructions on the booklet provided with the drug. If you have any doubts, ask the pharmacist or doctor. Wash your hands properly before administering the drug on your dog. Before using the ointment, remove the debris around the eyes of your dog with a nonirritating eye solution. Lift up your pet’s chin and make it look at the ceiling while applying the drug. Pull down the lower lid of the affected eye and apply ¼ inch of ointment along the inner edge of the eye. Make sure that the tip of the tube is not touching the eyes of the pet. Wash your hands immediately after applying the ointment. The ointment is only for dogs. Don’t get that in contact with your eyes as it may cause blurred vision. If the ointment gets into your eyes, wash it off with tap water.
Indications & Dosage of Optimmune
Optimmune decreases inflammation caused due to dry eyes and increases tear production.
The dosage of Optimmune depends on the medical condition of your dog and the response to the treatment. The recommended dosage is ¼ strip of ointment in every 12 hours. Follow your veterinarian’s instructions carefully during treatment. You must not give Optimmune in excess or for a longer period than prescribed by the doctor. Make sure that you administer Optimmune on time. Don’t skip any dose. If you miss a dose, give it as soon as possible. If it is time for the next dose, avoid the missed dose. Don’t give an overdose of Optimmune. In case of overdose, wash the eyes of the pet with water and seek immediate medical attention. If you are not finding any improvement in your dog after two weeks, contact your veterinarian. If you are using any other eye medication for your dog, there should be a five minute gap between administering the drugs. It is advised not to use any medication for your dog without consulting the doctor.
Optimmune must be kept at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius away from heat, moisture and direct light. Make sure that the drug is kept away from the reach of children.
Side Effects & Interactions of Optimmune
Common side effects of Optimmune are:
- Blurred vision
- Burning, itching, redness, discharge and irritation in the affected eye
