Description of Lysteda
Lysteda is a medication with the generic name tranexamic acid, which is a synthesized form of an amino acid known as lysine. Lysteda stops the actions of certain enzymes that break down blood clots.
You can buy Lysteda for the treatment of heavier than usual menstrual bleeding. It is important to note here, however, that Lysteda does not treat premenstrual syndrome, commonly known as PMS. Your doctor may prescribe Lysteda for other medical purposes as well. This drug is available as Lysteda 650mg tablets.
Indications & Dosage of Lysteda
Lysteda is specifically indicated for treating cyclic heavy menstrual bleeding. The dosage and duration of Lysteda would be prescribed by your doctor, and you must follow only the directions given by your doctor. In general, Lysteda is taken one or two times a day. The duration of Lysteda treatment is usually 5 days, and the medicine would be taken during your periods.
You must never take Lysteda until your menstrual periods have started. You must also never take Lysteda five days consecutively. In most cases, you would see improvements within 2 such cycles of treatment. However, if you see no significant improvements in your condition even after 2 cycles, you should tell your doctor.
You may take Lysteda on an empty or full stomach, but never break, crush or chew the tablet; you should always swallow Lysteda pills whole along with water. You may need to undergo regular medical checks while you are on Lysteda, in order to check for any side effects and if the medicine is working effectively.
Side Effects & Interactions of Lysteda
Lysteda is known to cause severe side effects, albeit in rare cases. Some of these serious side effects are given below:
- Vision and color recognition problems
- Sudden weakness or numbness in one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, headache and problems with balance, speech and vision
- Breathing trouble, chest pain
- Swelling and pain in both legs, or just one leg
- Blood in urine
- Migraine headache
- Reduced or no urination
- Concentration problems, rapid heart rate, lightheadedness, shortness of breath and pale skin
Lysteda may also cause mild side effects, like those given below:
- Feeling like fainting
- Strange and unusual happiness
- Pain in the joint and back, muscle pain
- Tiredness
- Abdominal cramps and pain
- Stuffy or runny nose
- Mild headache
Lysteda interacts with the following medications:
- Hormonal forms of birth control, like skin patches, birth control pills, etc.
- Tretinoin
- Bleeding or blood clot treatment medicines
- Chemotherapeutic drugs, especially those that treat leukemia
- Factor IX
Warnings & Precautions of Lysteda
You must not buy Lysteda if you have previously suffered from a stroke, allergy to tranexamic acid, bleeding in the brain and blood clot. Lysteda is not known to be harmful when taken during pregnancy, but you must consult your doctor beforehand.
