Description of Integrilin
Integrilin is a clear, colorless and sterile solution for intravenous use. The generic name for this drug is Eptifibatide, an anti-platelet drug that prevents the formation of blood clots. Your doctor might ask you to buy Integrilin in order to open up blocked arteries and to prevent clotting.
Eptifibatide is available in two strengths in vials containing 2 mg/ml (20 mg) and Integrilin 0.75 mg/ml (75 mg). Certain pharmacists also sell 100 ml vials containing 2 mg/ml (200 mg). The drug is administered intravenously
Indications & Dosage of Integrilin
Integrilin injections are given intravenously to people with an unstable angina, acute coronary syndrome and those undergoing surgical procedures such as angioplasty. It prevents blood clots by stopping platelets in the blood from sticking together. Your doctor might also prescribe this medication for other purposes.
The recommended dosage for adult patients suffering from acute coronary syndrome is an intravenous bolus of 180 mcg/kg immediately after diagnosis, followed by a continuous infusion of Integrilin 2.0 mcg/kg/min, up to 72 hours.
For patients with an estimated creatinine clearance < 50 mL/min, the dosage usually is an intravenous bolus of 180 mcg/kg, followed by a continuous infusion of Integrilin 1.0 mcg/kg/min. The drug is administered concomitantly with aspirin and heparin.
The dosage is calculated based on an individual’s weight. Eptifibatide injections must be stored between 2°C to 8°C.
