Description of Herplex D
Herplex D is an ophthalmic medication with the generic name Idoxuridine. It belongs to a group of medications known as antivirals. Herplex D is available in the form of an ophthalmic solution. It is a prescription medication, so you should consult your doctor before you buy Herplex D online.
Indications & Dosage of Herplex D
Herplex D is indicated in the treatment of eye infections caused by the Herpes virus. The medication should not be used to treat fungal or bacterial infections.
The chemical structure of Idoxuridine is similar to thymidine, one of the important constituents of the DNA of Herpes virus. Idoxuridine works to replace thymidine during replication or growth of the Herpes virus. The result is a faulty DNA that does not have the capability of replicating for growth and infecting or destroying the host tissue.
The dosage of Herplex D differs with each patient. The usual dose of Herplex D for adults and children is every hour during the day and every two hours during the night. When the eye condition improves, you will be required to use Herplex D every two hours during the day and every four hours during the night.
Side Effects & Interactions of Herplex D
Like all other drugs, Herplex D may also cause mild to severe side effects in some people. It is not necessary that every person using this medication will experience any side effects. In fact, many people using Herplex D do not complain about any side effects.
The common side effects associated with Herplex D include: mild pain, itching, mild burning sensation in the eye, blurred vision, redness or sensitivity to light. These side effects generally appear at the beginning of the treatment and disappear after few days. If any of these side effects become bothersome or persist, you need to inform your doctor.
In rare cases, the drug may cause severe side effects in some people. You may also experience side effects other than the ones mentioned above. To know more about side effects caused by Herplex D, refer to the information leaflet that is provided with the medication.
If you use two or more drugs concurrently, then it may so happen that they may interact with each other and cause side effects. Your doctor will be aware of the possible drug interactions. Therefore before you buy Herplex D, inform him/her about every medication you are using which includes prescription drugs, over the counter medications, other ophthalmic solutions, or herbal preparations.
Warnings & Precautions of Herplex D
You should not use Herplex D if you are allergic to any ingredient in it. The ophthalmic solution contains several inactive ingredients that may cause side effects if you are allergic to any of them.
It is not known how the medication may affect the unborn baby or a nursing infant. Therefore pregnant women and nursing mothers should buy Herplex D only on a doctor’s recommendation. Women who get pregnant during treatment should inform their doctor about it and continue using the medication only if their doctor tells them to do so.
