Description of Glucovance
Glucovance is a combination medication that contains two drugs with the generic names, Metformin Hydrochloride and Glibenclamide. Metformin belongs to a group of medicines known as biguanides while Glibenclamide belongs to a family of drugs known as Sulfonylureas. Glucovance is available in the form of a tablet indicated for oral use. It is supplied in three different strengths- Glucovance 250/1.25, 500/2.5, and 500/5. The drug is a prescription medication, so you need to consult your doctor before you buy Glucovance online.
Indications & Dosage of Glucovance
Glucovance is indicated to manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The medication is specifically prescribed when Metformin or Glibenclamide alone are not enough to control blood sugar levels. Glucovance can be also used by a Type 2 diabetes mellitus patient who is taking Metformin and Glibenclamide as separate drugs to control blood sugar levels.
Metformin and Glibenclamide work differently to control blood sugar levels. Metformin reduces the amount of sugar produced by liver and also reduces the absorption of sugar by the body from the diet. The drug also increases sensitivity of insulin receptors that enables the body to use insulin more efficiently. Glibenclamide stimulates the pancreas to make more insulin. It also helps cells respond to insulin in more efficient way.
Your doctor will decide the dose and give specific instructions regarding how to take it. The dose of Glucovance differs with each individual. The usual recommended dose of Glucovance for a patient who has not benefitted from the use of either Metformin or Glibenclamide is one Glucovance 500/2.5, once daily. The usual recommended dose for patients who have been using Metformin and Glibenclamide is one or two Glucovance 500/2.5 daily.
You need to take the recommended dose with a glass of water immediately before your meal. Take the medication at same time every day to get the best effect.
