Gleevec is a drug that belongs to a class of drugs called protein-tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It is used in the treatment of certain types of leukemia (cancer beginning in the white cells) and cancers of other blood cells. In children with newly diagnosed Ph+CML 340 mg/m2/day is recommended and for those who are resistant to another type of therapy called interferon-alpha therapy or with recurrence of Ph+CML after stem cell transplant, 260mg/m2/day may be used.
