Description of Galvus Met
Galvus Met is a combination medication that contains two drugs with the generic names Vildagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride. Both drugs in the medication belong to a group of medicines known as oral blood glucose lowering drugs. Galvus Met is available in the form of a tablet. It is supplied in two strengths such as Galvus Met 50 mg/850 mg and Galvus Met 50 mg/1,000 mg. Each Galvus Met tablet contains 50mg Vildagliptin and 850mg or 1000mg Metformin Hydrochloride. Indications & Dosage of Galvus Met
Galvus Met is used to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, along with diet and exercise. The medication is specifically prescribed to patients whose glycemic control cannot be controlled by Vildagliptin or Metformin Hydrochloride alone. Galvus Met can also be used by patients who are using separate tablets of Vildagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride to improve glycemic control.
Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding the dosage. The recommended dose of Galvus Met is individualized and generally based on tolerability and effectiveness of the recommended dose. The recommended daily dose of Galvus Met should not exceed 100mg Vildagliptin.
The recommended initial dose is one Galvus Met 50 mg/850 mg tablet daily. The dose is generally adjusted by titration method after assessing therapeutic response and efficacy of the recommended dose.
Side Effects & Interactions of Galvus Met
Like all other drugs, Galvus Met may also cause mild to severe side effects in some patients. However, not all people who use this medication experience side effects. As a matter of fact, many people who use this medication do not complain about any side effects.
The less severe side effects associated with Galvus Met include: abdominal swelling, dysgeusia, nausea, abdominal pain with cramps, constipation, heartburn, flatulence, diarrhea, heartburn, headache disorder, vomiting, or upper respiratory infections. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects become bothersome.
Some people may also experience severe side effect such as weight gain, hypoglycemic disorder, lactic acidosis, hepatic porphyria, aplastic anemia, disease of liver, pancytopenia, agranulocytosis, or cholestasis. Stop using the medication and consult your doctor if you experience severe side effects after taking a dose of Galvus Met.
Galvus Met may potentially interact with other drugs you are using and cause side effects. It may interact with medicines such as Phenothiazines, Nifedipine, Furosemide, corticosteroids, Nicotinic acid, Ca-channel blockers, Glyburide, Thiazides, Phenytoin, Cationic drugs, thyroid products, or estrogens.

Warnings & Precautions of Galvus Met
People with type 1 diabetes should not buy Galvus Met. The medication is not indicated for use in treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Galvus Met is not a substitute for insulin and as such, it should not be used by patients with insulin requirements.
It is not known whether the drug passes into breast milk or how it may affect the nursing baby. Therefore, nursing mothers or women planning to breastfeed should not use Galvus Met.
