General Information on Floxin Ear Drops
Floxin Ear Drops is used for the treatment of bacterial infections in the outer and middle ear (e.g. swimmer’s ear and ear canal infections).
The active ingredient in the drug is Ofloxacin. Being a quinolone antibiotic, it works by stopping the growth and spread of bacteria in the ear that are responsible for causing the infection. In this way, the infection is treated.
Floxin Ear Drops is available in the form of an otic solution and needs to be applied directly in the infected ear.
Floxin Ear Drops is used for treating bacterial infections only and is ineffective against viral or yeast infections.
Side effects of Floxin Ear Drops
Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Floxin Ear Drops if you are allergic to Ofloxacin or any other quinolone antibiotic. Inform your doctor if you have had an ear infection or any other ear problem within the last 6 months. He or she will need to make some special dosage adjustments in such a case.
One noticeable side effect of Floxin Ear Drops is dizziness. Due to this, you should avoid driving a vehicle, operating a machine, or doing any such activity that requires you to be completely alert. Also limit alcoholic beverages during Floxin Ear Drops treatment, as alcohol may worsen the side effect of dizziness.
You should store Floxin Ear Drops in the refrigerator, but keep it out for 5-10 minutes before applying it in your ears. Applying cold ear drops in your ears may also aggravate dizziness.
Some common side effects associated with the drug include headache, earache, dizziness, mild discomfort, changes in taste, or irritation in the infected ear. These are harmless side effects of Floxin Ear Drops and can be easily managed with or without medical help. However, you should inform your doctor immediately if these symptoms persist or worsen.
You need to notify your doctor immediately if you suffer from hearing changes, skin rash, numbness or a tingly feeling, ear discharge or drainage, or worsening pain in the ear. These are serious side effects of the drug, and your doctor may need to make special adjustments in such a situation.
If you buy Floxin Ear Drops or a quinolone antibiotic for the first time, you should watch out for symptoms of an allergy. Such symptoms include hives, itching or swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, or face, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. Discontinue using Floxin Ear Drops and seek medical attention immediately if you witness any of these symptoms.
Dosage of Floxin Ear Drops
Usually, your doctor will recommend you to apply 5 to 10 drops in your infected ear twice a day. The duration of treatment may range from 10 to 14 days, depending on the type and severity of your ear infection.
You should use Floxin Ear Drops only as prescribed by your doctor, as using more drops than recommended or for a longer period will not help in any way. Doing so will only worsen the condition and increase your risks of suffering from the serious side effects of the drug.
