Description of Estrogel
Estrogel is used to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, itching, burning and vaginal dryness. The generic name of the drug is Estradiol Topical.
Read all the instructions carefully before using the gel. Wash and dry your hands before administering the drug. You must prime the pump if you are using the gel for the first time. The gel must be applied on clean and dry skin. Squeeze a bit of Estrogel in your palm by pressing the pump. The pump releases the same amount of gel each time while pressing it down. Spread the gel in your palm to spread it evenly and apply the gel on your skin. You don’t need to rub the gel o your skin. Allow the gel to dry before dressing. Place the protective cap back on the pump after use. Wash and dry your hands properly after administering Estrogel.
Indications & Dosage of Estrogel
Estrogel is a clear, colorless drug that contains an estrogen hormone called estradiol.
The recommended dosage of Estrogel is 1.25 g per day. You must use the drug at the same time every day to get the best results. Don’t apply Estrogel directly on your breasts, face or vagina. Make sure that the gel does not come in direct contact with your eyes, nose and lips. If the gel gets into the eyes, wash it with warm water. If you miss a dose of Estrogel, take it as soon as you remember. Don’t take a double dose of Estrogel. In case of an overdose or double dose, seek immediate medical attention. The symptoms of an overdose are vomiting, stomach pain, vaginal bleeding, drowsiness and breast tenderness.
You must store Estrogel at room temperature away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Keep it away from the reach of children. Don’t keep Estrogel near a fire, as it is an inflammable medication. Don’t smoke while administering the gel.
Side Effects & Interactions of Estrogel
Less serious side effects of Estrogel are:
- Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting
- Skin discoloration and acne
- Swollen breasts
- Weight gain
- Bleeding
- Vaginal pain, dryness, itching, irritation and discomfort
Serious side effects of Estrogel are:
- General ill feeling, nausea and sweating
- Chest pain and heavy feeling
- Feeling of pain spreading to the arms
- Excessive vaginal bleeding
- Jaundice
- Tenderness, swelling and pain in the stomach
- Depression
- Dizziness, drowsiness, headache and migraine pain

Warnings & Precautions of Estrogel
You must not use Estrogel if you have:

- Low level of calcium in the blood
- Gallbladder disease
Don’t use Estrogel if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding.
