Description of Epivir Oral Solution
Epivir Oral Solution is used to treat hepatitis B and HIV. It belongs to the class of drugs called reverse transcriptase inhibitors. The generic name of the medication is Lamivudine.
This drug must be taken orally and is only available for purchase with a prescription. The instructions for use are as follows: Remove the cap of the bottle. Hold the bottle tightly and push the adapter into it. Now, insert the syringe into the adapter and hold the bottle upside down. Once the first part of the recommended dosage has entered the syringe, pull out the plunger. Keep the bottle in a proper position and remove the syringe from the adapter. Place the syringe in your mouth over the inside of your cheeks and push the plunger in. Don’t push the plunger in too fast, as it may release excess Epivir Oral Solution, and that may result in choking. Once you have swallowed the drug, take the syringe back and repeat the same procedure till you take the full dose. Wash the syringe and dry it. Close the bottle tightly and put the adapter back in place.
Indications & Dosage of Epivir Oral Solution
Epivir Oral Solution prevents the HIV virus from multiplying and thus stops them from spreading to the other parts and of the body and destroying the cells. It does not kill the existing HIV virus and cannot cure the disease.
The recommended dosage of Epivir Oral Solution for treating HIV in adults is 150 mg two times a day for those who weigh more than 50 kg. People who weigh less than 50 kg must be given 2 mg/kg. Children between the ages of 12 and 16 who weigh more than 50 kg must be given 150 mg two times a day. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 must be given 4 mg/kg two times a day. The dosage of Epivir Oral Solution must not exceed more than 300 mg a day. The dosage to treat hepatitis B is 100 mg two times a day.
Epivir Oral Solution must be stored at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keep it away from heat, direct sunlight and moisture, and away from the reach of children.
Side Effects & Interactions of Epivir Oral Solution
Less serious side effects of Epivir Oral Solution are:
- Stomach pain and diarrhea
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Mouth pain and swelling
- Loss of appetite
- Trouble sleeping
- Headache and tiredness
Serious side effects of Epivir Oral Solution are:
- Ear pain and discharge
- Dark colored urine
- Severe allergic reactions such as rashes and hives
- Severe nausea
- Severe and persistent muscle pain
- Irregular heartbeat
- Dizziness and lightheadedness
- Yellowing of the eyes and skin

Warnings & Precautions of Epivir Oral Solution
You must not use Epivir Oral Solution if you have:
- An allergy to any of the ingredients in it
- Liver disease
- Diabetes and are using insulin

You must not use Epivir Oral Solution if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Don’t administer the drug in children with kidney disease. It must not be given to children under the age of 2.
