Description of Edarbi
Edarbi has Azilsartan Modoxomil as its active ingredient, and it is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. You can buy Edarbi in the form of oral tablets that have a distinct odor. Each tablet contains 40 or 80mg Azilsartan Modoxomil, along with other inactive ingredients including magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium hydroxide, fumaric acid and mannitol.
Indications & Dosage of Edarbi
Edarbi is an oral medication used for treating hypertension or high blood pressure. In some cases, it can also be used to prevent kidney damage associated with diabetes. The drug works by keeping the patient’s blood vessels from narrowing, which helps in lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow. Your doctor may advise you to take Edarbi along with some other medicines for treating blood pressure. Keeping blood pressure under control helps prevent kidney problems, heart attacks, strokes and several other medical problems.
The treatment starts with Edarbi 40mg once daily. Depending on your response to the drug, the dosage can be increased to Edarbi 80mg once everyday. You can take the tablets with or without meals.
Side Effects & Interactions of Edarbi
Diarrhea, cough, mild nausea, muscle spasms, weakness, mild dizziness, or tiredness can be commonly experienced by Edarbi patients. These are short-lived side effects of the drug and should improve on their own as your body adjusts to it. However, it would be better to notify your doctor at once if any of these become intolerable. Also seek medical attention immediately if you develop any serious side effects of Edarbi. Symptoms of such side effects include:
- Stopped or decreased urination
- Drowsiness, mood changes, confusion, loss of appetite, increased thirst, vomiting
- Increased weight, shortness of breath, swelling
- Feeling like you may pass out
Your doctor will not advise you to buy Edarbi if you have allergies to any of its active or inactive ingredients. Watch out for symptoms of an allergic reaction, especially if you are using Edarbi or any such drug for the first time. Such symptoms include:
- Hives
- Severe dizziness
- Difficulty breathing, chest tightness
- Swelling or itching on the throat, lips, tongue or face
Edarbi may affect the patient’s potassium levels. Therefore, inform your doctor beforehand if you are taking any salt substitutes or potassium supplements at present. Also inform your doctor if you are using any other blood pressure medicines, diuretics or NSAIDs (e.g. celecoxib, meloxicam or ibuprofen.
Warnings & Precautions of Edarbi
Your doctor will need to take some special tests and make dosage adjustments if you have a liver or kidney disease, congestive heart failure, electrolyte imbalance (e.g. low magnesium or potassium levels in blood) or if you are already dehydrated.
Edarbi is not meant to be used by pregnant women, as it may cause serious injury or even death to the unborn child, especially if taken during the 2nd or 3rd trimester. Use an effective barrier form of contraception during Edarbi treatment.
