Description of Duetact
The generic name of Duetact is glimepiride and pioglitazone. It belongs to a group of medicines known as thiazolidinediones. Duetact is a combination drug available in the form of oral tablets as 30 mg pioglitazone and 2 mg glimepiride and 30 mg pioglitazone and 4 mg glimepiride. The two ingredients in Duetact - pioglitazone and glimepiride, help in reducing blood glucose levels. Side Effects & Interactions of Duetact
Duetact may cause mild to serious side effects. However, not everyone taking the oral tablet is likely to experience side effects because of its usage.
Less serious side effects associated with Duetact are: stuffy nose, gradual weight gain, sneezing, tooth problems, cough, sore throat, or other cold symptoms, mild nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, or blurred vision. Talk to your doctor if any of these side effects continue to bother you.
Some of the serious side effects associated with Duetact include stomach pain, swelling in the feet, rapid weight gain, blood in the urine, painful urination, pale skin, easy bruising and bleeding. Shortness of breath, dark urine, clay-colored stools, confusion, constipation, loss of appetite, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, hallucinations, weakness, severe stomach ache, extreme thirst, seizures, and jaundice.
In some cases, Duetact is also known to cause allergic reactions such as hives, swelling of the face, difficulty breathing, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop the use of the drug and seek medical help immediately if you experience any of the side effects.
Duetact may interact with other drug you are using and cause health troubles. It may interact with medicines such emfibrozil (Lopid), rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifater) and fluconazole (Diflucan), ketoconazole (Nizoral).
