General Information On Diamox SR
Diamox SR is used for the treatment of glaucoma (a disease that affects the optic nerve). This medication may also be used to treat acute mountain sickness (AMS). Acetazolamide (generic name of this drug) works by reducing the activity of a certain protein called carbonic anhydrase. This drug falls under the category of drugs referred to as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.
Side Effects for Diamox SR
Diamox SR, like most other medicines, may cause certain negative effects. You must contact your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms or experience any other side effects that are not listed below.
Common side effects for this medicine include: loss of appetite, mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or headache, tiredness, numbness or tingling sensation in your toes or fingers, change in taste, nervousness, above normal urination, or increased thirst.
Some patients who buy Diamox SR may experience the following side effects: tinnitus (ringing in the ears), hearing difficulties, vision problems (such as short-sightedness), mental/mood changes (such as confusion, irritability, depression), or increased sensitivity to light.
Seek medical help immediately if you notice any of the following side effects: hives, swelling of your face, lips, or other body parts, wheezing, shortness of breath, or breathing trouble.
In rare cases, Diamox SR may harm the kidneys or liver. Seek medical help right away if you experience a burning sensation or pain while passing urine, blood in your urine, have difficulty passing urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin, black or tarry stools, or blood in your stools.

Precautions
Before you start using this medication, inform your doctor if you are allergic to Sulphonamides, Acetazolamide, and other Sulphonamide derivatives, or to any other ingredients used in this medicine. In addition to the above, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have or ever had a liver disease, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, hormonal disease, or lung disease.
The effectiveness and safety of Diamox SR during pregnancy has not been determined. If you are pregnant, then use this drug only if your doctor approves it. It is unknown if this medicine is contraindicated for nursing infants. If you are nursing, then use Diamox SR only if your doctor advises you to do so.
Do not drive or perform other hazardous activities if this drug causes dizziness, drowsiness or vision problems. Consult your doctor prior to starting treatment if you need to avoid certain beverages or foods during the course of your treatment.
Diamox SR Dosage
The medicine is available in the Diamox SR 250mg strength. The dosage varies from individual to individual. Your doctor will advise you on how frequently and for how long you need to take this medicine.
Interactions
Your doctor can adjudge this treatment as safe for you only when he/she knows all the medications that you are taking. This is so because certain drugs such as primidone, cyclosporine, and others are known to interact with Diamox SR. Prior to starting treatment, inform your doctor about all the medicines that you are taking. Also, while you are taking Acetazolamide, do not use any new medication without telling your doctor.
