General Information on Diabeta
Diabeta is used for treating Type 2 diabetes, also known as adult onset diabetes or non-insulin dependent diabetes. It is specifically used to manage blood sugar levels and prevent health complications that can be caused by diabetes. Diabeta should not be used for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes.
Glyburide, the main active ingredient in Diabeta, belongs to the Sulfonylureas group of drugs. It causes the beta cells found in the pancreas to create more insulin. The medication also helps the cells utilize the insulin more efficiently, which helps lower blood sugar levels and control diabetes.
Diabeta is available in the form of a tablet. It is available in three strengths: 1.25mg, 2.5mg, and 5mg. The drug is a prescription medication, so you must consult your doctor before you buy Diabeta.
Side effects of Diabeta
Diabeta may cause mild to severe side effects in some patients. Some of the common side effects associated with the drug are stomach problems such as heartburn or nausea, and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels). These side effects do not require treatment or can be treated easily by your doctor if required.
Diabeta may also cause allergic reaction such as itching and hives. Some of the rare side effects associated with the drug include black or clay colored stools, tightness in the chest, and drastic loss of appetite, dark urine, upper abdominal ache, diarrhea, fever, and unpleasant breath.
In rare cases, Diabeta may cause severe side effects such as easy bruising/bleeding, yellowing of the skin/eyes, swelling of the hands/feet, stomach pain, sudden or unusual weight gain, seizures, unusual weakness/tiredness, or mood/mental changes. Consult your doctor immediately if you notice or experience any severe side effects after taking a dose of Diabeta.
It is not necessary that every person taking Diabeta will experience some side effect after using Diabeta. Many people using this medication do not complain about any side effects. You should understand that your doctor has prescribed this drug for your treatment because he/she is of the opinion that the benefits of the medication outweigh its side effects.
Dosage of Diabeta
Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding the dosage. The Diabeta dosage depends on factors such as your medical condition and response to treatment. Take the dose at the same time every day to maintain even levels of Diabeta in the blood.
You may be required to take the medication one time or two times a day. If your doctor has recommended only one dose per day, then take the medication with breakfast. If your doctor has recommended two doses a day, you should take the first dose with breakfast or a main meal.
