Description of Cromolyn
Cromolyn is a medication with the generic name Sodium Cromoglycate. It belongs to a group of drugs known as mast cell stabilizers. Cromolyn is available in four forms, such as eye drops, inhalers, oral solution and nasal spray. The drug is a prescription medication, so you need to consult your doctor before you buy Cromolyn online.
Indications & Dosage of Cromolyn
Cromolyn is used to treat symptoms of asthma and allergies. The medication is useful to prevent an asthma attack. However, Cromolyn may not prove useful to stop an asthma attack which has already started.
The mast cells in the body release specific chemicals in response to allergens and certain conditions. These chemicals cause allergy symptoms. The drug works by stabilizing the mast cells and preventing release of chemicals in response to allergens and different conditions.
Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding the dosage. The dosage depends on several factors such as patient’s age, the form of medication prescribed for treatment, the medical condition being treated, severity of the condition, and other medications the patient is using.
The recommended dose of Cromolyn inhaler for the treatment of asthma is 2 inhalations, 4 times daily. To prevent a predictable asthma attack, you need to take two inhalations, 10-15 minutes prior to an anticipated asthma attack.
Side Effects & Interactions of Cromolyn
Like all other drugs, Cromolyn may also cause mild to severe side effects in some patients. However, not all people who use this drug experience side effects. As a matter of fact, many people who use this medication do not complain about any side effects.
The less severe side effects associated with Cromolyn include: dry throat, nausea, sneezing, bad taste, sore throat, wheezing, cough, sneezing or nasal congestion. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects become bothersome.
Worsening of asthma is one of the severe side effects associated with Cromolyn. Some people may also experience severe side effects such as itchy nose, drowsiness, nose burning, nosebleeds, dizziness, joint pain and swelling, stomach ache, frequent or painful urination, watery eyes, muscle pain, or headaches. These side effects are very rare and may be experienced by very few people.
In rare cases, Cromolyn may cause allergic reactions in some people. Seek medical attention immediately if you notice or experience unexplained swelling or rash, itching or hives.
Cromolyn may potentially interact with other medicines you are using and cause side effects. Before you buy Cromolyn, tell the doctor about every drug you are using, which includes prescription drugs, over the counter medications, and herbal supplements.
Warnings & Precautions of Cromolyn
You should not use Cromolyn if you are hypersensitive to any ingredient in it. All forms of Cromolyn contain several inactive ingredients that may cause an allergic reaction or side effect if you are allergic to any of them. Before starting the treatment, inform the doctor about your medical history of liver disease or kidney disease.
It is not known whether Cromolyn passes into breast milk. Nursing mothers should learn about the risks and benefits associated with the use of the drug and then buy Cromolyn. Pregnant women should use Cromolyn only after consulting their doctor.
