Description of Clarinex Syrup
Clarinex Syrup belongs to the group of drugs known as antihistamines. The drug mainly provides relief from certain seasonal allergies. Several chemicals known as histamines are produced when a person comes into touch with something he/she is allergic to. Histamine production leads to problems like sneezing, watery eyes, itching and certain other uncomfortable sensations. Clarinex Syrup use keeps these in check and prevents the production of naturally occurring histamine to bring down the symptoms mentioned above. The generic name of Clarinex Syrup is desloratadine.
Clarinex Syrup is available in the form of an orange colored fluid which contains 0.5mg/1ml of desloratadine, its most active ingredient.
Indications & Dosage of Clarinex Syrup
Clarinex Syrup is mainly indicated for the treatment of seasonal allergies like hay fever and certain indoor forms of allergies like dust mites and house dust. The syrup may also be indicated for certain other purposes.
Clarinex Syrup should be used safely and cautiously, based strictly on the prescription of the doctor. Altering dosage amounts is not recommended, as it may cause adverse effects. The general recommended dosage of Clarinex Syrup for adults is 2 teaspoons or 5mg once every day. Adults with liver problems should have the same amount, but on alternate days. Children between 6 and 12 years should take a single teaspoon of Clarinex Syrup each day. Dosage for children below than 6 years is somewhere around 1.25mg each day.
It is recommended for the patients to try and take their doses at the same time each day to allow the drug to have optimum effects. Missed doses should not be compensated by taking extra doses later on. Lastly, Clarinex Syrup should be stored in conditions as mentioned on the packaging label.
Side effects & Interactions of Clarinex Syrup
Patients should be aware of the several side effects of the drug before they buy Clarinex Syrup. Certain side effects are short term and minor in nature. Some of them are:
- Dizziness and headaches;
- Indigestion and other stomach related problems;

During treatment, it is recommended that patients avoid the following substances as they enhance some side effects: ketoconazole and erythromycin.
