Description of Astelin
Astelin is a nasal spray that is used for the treatment of nasal symptom allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, and itching. The generic name of the drug is Azelastine Nasal. It is a metered spray solution used for intranasal spray.
You must buy Astelin only as per the description of the doctor. You must clean your nose by gently blowing it before using the spray. If you are using the spray for the first time, spray it in the air4 times till a fine mist appears. Make sure that you are not spraying it into your eyes. Insert the tip of the spray in to your nostril and close the other nostril with your fingers. Spray in the nostril and inhale gently.

Astelin is used to treat nasal problems caused due to seasonal and yearly allergies. It is an antihistamine. It blocks the natural substances called histamines that cause allergic symptoms.
The dosage of Astelin depends on various factors such as the nature of the disease and the response of the patient to the treatment. The recommended dose of Astelin is 1-2 sprays two times a day in each nostril. Don’t spray it into your eyes and mouth. Take the exact number of doses as prescribed by the doctor. Each spray delivers 0.137 mL mean volume containing 137 mcg of azelastine hydrochloride. One bottle delivers 200 sprays. Astelin is administered in children over the age of 12.
Clean the pump nozzle with a fine and clean the tissue every time after use. Don’t try to sneeze soon after administering the drug. Try to take the dose on time. If you miss a dose, take it at the earliest. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Don’t take an overdose of Astelin. The common side effect of overdose is extreme sleepiness. Serious side effects of Astelin are:
- Shortness of breath
- Tightness in the chest
- Uneven and fast heartbeat

Certain drugs may interact with Astelin. Tell your doctor if you are taking any drugs such as muscle relaxers, pills for cold and sleeping pills that make you sleep. If you take Astelin along with those drugs, it will result in excessive sleepiness. Discuss with your doctor all your previous and current medications. This includes over-the-counter medication, vitamins and herbal products.
