Aricept is a reversible and a centrally acting acetyl-cholinesterase inhibitor. It is used for treating dementia that is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. The drug is effective in patients who have mild, moderate as well as severe Alzheimer’s disease. The enzyme acetyl-cholinesterase acts by breaking down of a neurotransmitter known as acetylcholine.
