Description of Antara
Antara is an oral medication with the generic name fenofibrate, which is a lipid regulating agent. The drug reduces the levels of triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. There is an increased risk of suffering from atherosclerosis or clogged arteries when these particular fats are found in higher levels in the body. You can buy Antara for the treatment of high triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Apart from this, doctors may also prescribe Antara for other medical purposes.
Indications & Dosage of Antara
Antara is available in the form of oral capsules in the following 2 dosage strengths- Antara 43mg and Antara 130mg. Your doctor will determine which capsule is to be taken, your daily dose, and duration of treatment with Antara. You must follow only your doctor’s prescription. You must not take any this drug for longer than prescribed or take a larger dosage than recommended. Each capsule of Antara must be swallowed whole along with a glass of water. However, Antara can be taken either on an empty stomach or after a meal.
Apart from taking Antara, your doctor may also advise you on the proper diet to be followed to reduce cholesterol levels. You may be placed on an appropriate diet plan even before you are asked to buy Antara, and you would have to continue with such a diet during treatment.
For adults with high cholesterol or mixed lipid levels, the recommended initial daily dosage of Antara is 130mg. For adults with high triglyceride levels, the initial dosage is recommended to be maintained at 43-130mg in a day. However, the dosage would be individualized according to the response in each patient. If required, the dosage of Antara may be adjusted to after appropriate tests have been conducted at 4-8 week intervals. The maximum daily dose should never exceed 130mg per day.
Side Effects & Interactions of Antara
Antara is known to cause certain severe, but rare side effects on the muscles. You must inform your doctor at once if you notice any abnormal tenderness, pain or weakness in your muscles, along with flu-like symptoms or a high fever. The occurrence of certain severe side effects may require you to stop taking Antara. Some of the severe side effects are given below:
- High fever
- Abnormal weakness
- Vomiting and nausea
- Severe stomach ache
Antara is also known to cause mild side effects such as those given below:
- Skin rash
- Bloating, flatulence
- Indigestion
- Joint pain
Antara may interact with a few medicines. You must inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following drugs:
- Other drugs that lower cholesterol levels, like cerivastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin and atorvastatin
- Cyclosporine
- Warfarin and other blood thinners
Warnings & Precautions of Antara
You must not buy Antara if you suffer from gallbladder disease, severe kidney disease, cirrhosis of the liver, or hepatitis. While you are on Antara, you must avoid drinking alcohol. This is because alcohol is known to increase triglyceride levels in the body and seriously damage the liver if it is taken along with this drug.
