Description of Alvesco

Ciclesonide is the generic name for Alvesco and it is available in the form of inhalation aerosol. Ciclesonide is the primary ingredient in Alvesco and exists in the form of white or yellow-white powder. Ciclesonide is soluble in acetone, dehydrated alcohol, chloroform, and dichloromethane. You can buy Alvesco from a pharmacy using a prescription and you can buy either Alvesco 80 mcg or Alvesco 160 mcg Inhalation Aerosol depending on your prescription.

Indications & Dosage of Alvesco

Alvesco is prescribed by doctors as a maintenance treatment for children with asthma. It is prescribed as a prophylactic therapy for both adolescent and adult patients over the age of 12 years.

The recommended dose for patients over 12 years of age who have received bronchodilators or inhaled corticosteroids is Alvesco 80 mcg two times daily. The recommended dose for patients over 12 years of age who have received oral corticosteroids is Alvesco 320 mcg two times daily. The highest recommended dose is Alvesco 160 mcg for patients receiving bronchodilators and Alvesco 320 mcg for patients receiving inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Alvesco inhalators should be stored between 15°C and 30°C.

Side Effects & Interactions of Alvesco

Administration of Alvesco can lead to mild or moderate side effects with clearly visible symptoms. Some of the side effects caused by Alvesco include:

  • White patches in the throat or mouth
  • Mild or severe breathing problems
  • Tunnel vision or blurred vision
  • Worsening of asthma symptoms
  • Unpleasant taste in your mouth
  • Burning sensation or irritation in the mouth
  • Runny or stuffy nose followed by sore throat
  • Mild to severe headache
  • Ear pain or discharge

  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Paradoxical bronchospasm
  • Delayed hypersensitivity reactions

Alvesco is known to interact with other drugs like emtricitabine, amprenavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, ritonavir, lansoprazole, tenofovir, clarithromycin, conivaptan, darunavir, delavirdine, fosamprenavir, itraconazole, indium oxyquinoline in-111, ketoconazole, miconazole, and nefazodone among others. Make sure that your doctor is aware of all the medications you are taking before starting treatment with Alvesco.

Warnings & Precautions of Alvesco

Ciclesonide is known to cause harm to the fetus and it is advised that you should not buy Alvesco without consulting your doctor during pregnancy. Clinical studies of animals have revealed that using Alvesco can lead to teratogenicity and as such, it should be administered only if it is beneficial to the patient. There is no data available that supports the excretion of Ciclesonide through human milk and most doctors ask breastfeeding mothers to avoid the administration of Alvesco during breastfeeding.
