Description of Advair inhaler
Advair Inhaler is a drug prescribed for asthma. The inhaler delivers a combination of two drugs. These are salmeterol and fluticasone. People buy Advair Inhaler for getting relief from asthma. Advair Inhaler delivers the drug in a powder form in various strengths. It also is available as a spray inhaler in an aerosol container.
Indications & Dosage of Advair Inhaler
Advair inhaler is used to provide relief to patients of asthma as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The anti-inflammatory component of the drug in the inhaler is fluticasone. It is a corticosteroid. The other component, salmeterol, is used for opening the constricted airways. Both the drugs work together to give relief. People who buy Advair inhaler have less frequent bouts of shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing.
People can buy Advair inhaler in a diskus form or as a metered dose aerosol inhaler. The inhaler can delivers fluticasone propionate doses of 50, 125 and 250 mcg (micrograms). It also delivers salmeterol in doses of 21 mcg. The dosage for the patient depends a lot on the usage technique. It requires a timing of inhalation with the delivery of Advair Inhaler.
In the case of the dry powder inhaler (DPI) the drug is available in three different dosages. The biggest dose is that of 500mcg/50mcg. The middle level dosage is 250mcg/50mcg. The smallest dose is 100mcg/50mcg. The usual dosage of Advair Inhaler is twice daily. It can be taken once in the morning and once in the evening. It is recommended that users rinse their mouths after each use. The inhaler is only meant for patients who are 12 years and older.
Children between the ages of 4 and 11 can only be given the inhaler dose by a doctor’s prescription and can only be from a 100/50 mcg diskus. Advair Inhaler is to be given in the morning and the evening with a gap of 12 hours.
In the case of COPD, the patient is to be given an inhalation from the 250/50 diskus, once in the morning and evening. The gap between the two inhalations should be 12 hours.
Side Effects & Interactions of Advair Inhaler
Salmeterol is suspected to cause asthma deaths. The other ingredient in the inhaler, fluticasone, which is a corticosteroid, causes candidiasis. Infections of the upper respiratory tract are also caused by Advair Inhaler. Some users complain of headaches. Other possible side effects can be dizziness and nausea. The inhaler can cause diarrhea and also give rise to vomiting. Advair Inhaler should not be prescribed to pregnant or nursing mothers.
Warnings & Precautions of Advair Inhaler
Advair Inhaler is not an emergency inhaler. It is a long term treatment. For emergency situations, a rescue inhaler should always be available for immediate use. The inhaler should be used as a last resort if asthma is not under control with other medicines. Patients with allergies to milk proteins should not buy Advair Inhaler.
The physician should be informed about all allergies by the patient. Advair Inhaler should not be inhaled more than the prescribed dose. Call the doctor immediately if swelling of the tongue, mouth or face occurs after an inhalation. Any rash or further breathing problems should also be reported at once to the physician.
