General Information On Aczone
toAczone is used for treating acne. Its generic name is Dapsone, and it is an anti-infective antibiotic medication. Aczone is a topical gel which works to decrease the severity of acne and pimples. The exact mechanism of action of Aczone is not yet known.
Side Effects for Aczone
Local site reactions may occur, including dryness or oiliness, redness, or peeling of the treated skin after using Aczone. These side effects subside within a few days as your body adjusts to the medication. Some serious side effects of the drug may include dark urine, unusual weakness or tiredness, or mental or mood changes. Some patients may also experience severe vomiting, tonic clonic movements, suicidal thoughts, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, or severe pharyngitis. You should inform your doctor if you experience application site erythema, pruritus, pyrexia, nasopharyngitis, sinusitis, influenza, pharyngitis, cough, headache, or joint sprain.
An allergic reaction to the drug can be identified by difficulty in breathing, swollen face, tongue, throat or lips, hives and rashes. If you develop an allergic reaction after using Aczone gel, you should stop using it and seek medical help immediately.
Precautions
Do not buy Aczone if you are allergic to the drug, or if you have anemia or liver disease. You should also inform your doctor if you are deficient in glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase or G6PD. It is not yet known whether this drug is harmful for an unborn baby or not. Therefore, you should use it during pregnancy only if clearly indicated. Aczone can pass into a breastfeeding mother’s milk, and may harm the nursing baby. Therefore, lactating mothers should not use Aczone or should not breastfeed their baby during Aczone treatment.
Aczone Dosage
You will be advised to apply Aczone 5% gel on the affected area twice a day. Clean the affected area, wash your hands, take a pea-size amount of gel on your finger, and apply it on your skin. Rub it gently, carefully avoiding your lips and eyes. This drug is meant to be used only on your skin, and you should not use it inside your mouth or nose or around/in your groin area. Apply the gel at almost the same time every day. Do not use more gel than recommended, as it will not help improve your condition any faster. If the gel accidentally goes into your eyes, you should immediately flush them with a lot of water. If irritation persists, seek medical help right away.
Interactions
Before using Aczone, you should inform your doctor if you are already taking anti-malaria drugs, trimethoprin, sulfamethoxazole, or any other topical applications. Avoid using any other abrasive or harsh soaps, cosmetics, or other topical applications during Aczone treatment. Concomitant medicines such as anticonvulsants and rifampin can increase the formation of dapsone hydroxylamine in your body. Folic acid antagonists, including pyrimethamine, can increase hematologic reactions. Therefore, you should inform your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription drugs you are taking at present, including herbal preparations, health supplements, injections, oral medicines and topical applications.
