What is Omeprazole Prilosec Losec?
Losec Prilosec Omeprazole (o-MEP-ra-zole) is used to treat certain conditions in which there is too much acid in the stomach. It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastro esophageal reflux disease, a condition in which the acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus. Sometimes omeprazole is used in combination with antibiotics to treat ulcers associated with infection caused by the H. pylori bacteria (germ).
Omeprazole is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison disease, a condition in which the stomach produces too much acid. Losec is also used to treat dyspepsia, a condition that causes sour stomach, belching, heart burn, or indigestion. Prilosec works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
What are side effects of Losec?
If you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives), stop taking losec and seek emergency medical attention.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take losec and talk to your doctor if you experience
- drowsiness, dizziness, or headache;
- diarrhea, increased gas, or bloating; or
- itching.
