What is Zymar Eye Drops?

Zymar belongs to the family of drugs known as fluroquinolones. It is a sterile topical ophthalmic solution.


What is Zymar Eye Drops used for?

Zymar is prescribed for patients who are suffering from the symptoms of infection in the eye, which is primarily caused by bacteria.


How does Zymar Eye Drops work?

Zymar eliminates the bacteria causing the eye infection and protect it from further infection or disease.


How to use Zymar Eye Drops

Use Zymar as per the directions of your doctor. Do not take Zymar in larger amounts or for longer period than recommended.

Washing hands before using Zymar eye drops is necessary. To use the eye drops, tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid with your index finger, to pour the solution. Do not increase or decrease the number of drops without your doctor’s permission. The dropper tip of Zymar should not come in contact with other surfaces, as it may become contaminated and can further infect your eyes.


Zymar Eye Drops warnings and precautions

Before using Zymar, inform about your medical history to your medical advisor, especially if it is associated with the use of contact lenses and other allergies.

Consult your doctor if you have ever had allergy to gatifloxacin or other similar medications.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding before taking Zymar. Also, intimate your doctor if you plan to become pregnant.

Do not use Zymar eye drops if its color changes or if it has certain unusual particles in it. Do not use other eye medication during the treatment with Zymar until your doctor suggests you.

Make sure you do not wear contact lenses while pouring this ophthalmic solution into your eyes. Wait for at least 15 minutes after using this medication and before wearing contact lenses again.

Avoid taking Caffeine during the period you are prescribed to use Zymar, as it may make the effects of caffeine stronger.


What do I do if I have missed a Zymar Eye Drops dose?

If you have missed your Zymar dose, you should take it right away. If it’s almost time to take the next dose, wait until then and skip the missed dose. However, it is to be noted that you are not advised to use extra medicine to make up for the missed dosage.


What do I do if I have taken a Zymar Eye Drops overdose?

Overdose of Zymar is not expected to cause serious symptoms. However, if you have taken a Zymar overdose, you should wash your eyes properly with warm water.


Zymar Eye Drops interactions

Before using this medicine, inform your doctor about all the prescribed and non prescribed medications that you are taking, especially if you are already using medications like theophylline, cyclosporine, Sandimmune, Neoral, Gengraf and blood thinner such as warfarin.

Also, do not start using any new medication, without consulting your doctor.


Zymar Eye Drops side effects

Side effects from Zymar include severe infections such as hives, slow heart rate and weak pulse, difficulty in breathing, fainting and swelling of your face, tongue, lips, or throat.

Some of the serious Zymar side effects are redness, burning or discomfort in or around your eye, severe swelling or pain in the eyes, increased sensitivity to light, vision changes, and signs of new infection such as crusting, drainage or oozing of your eyes or eyelids.

Other less serious side effects of Zymar are watery eyes, mild itching, burning, irritation or redness, headache, puffy eyes or unpleasant taste in your mouth after using the eyes drops.
