What is Yaz?

Yaz is an hormonal birth control pill or oral contraceptive.

What is Yaz used for?

Yaz is used to prevent the release of eggs from ovary. It is also used to treat acne in females aged 14 years and above. Symptoms like anxiety, depression, lack of energy, sleep or appetite changes, irritability, trouble in concentrating, headache, weight gain and premenstrual dysphoric disorder can also be treated with Yaz.

How does Yaz work?

Yaz helps in changing the cervical uterine lining and it prevents the sperms to reach the uterus. It does not allow the fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

How to use Yaz

Take one pill of Yaz on a daily basis and maintain a gap of 24 hours. If you run out of pills, then get your medicine refilled. Do not take Yaz in excess amount and for longer period than suggested by your medical health provider.

You may need to stop the usage of Yaz for a certain period if you undergo any kind of surgery or if you are on bed rest. Always make your doctor or surgeon aware that you are using Yaz.

Yaz warnings and precautions

  • Avoid smoking while taking Yaz, especially if you have crossed the age of 35. Smoking may increase the risk of blood clot, heart attack, or stroke caused by birth control pills.
  • Immediately call your doctor if you experience breakthrough bleeding.
  • Your doctor may ask you to come for regular check-ups while you are using Yaz.
  • Self-examining of breast is necessary to check for lumps while using this medication.
  • Do not consume this pill if you are pregnant as it can cause birth defects in an unborn child.
  • Do not take Yaz if you are suffering from circulation problems, heart valve disorder, breast or uterine cancer, kidney or liver disease, abnormal vaginal bleeding, adrenal gland disorder, severe high blood pressure, history of jaundice or heart stroke.

What do I do if I have missed a Yaz dose?

If you have missed your Yaz dose you should take it as soon as possible. If you missed one active tablet, then you can take two pills at one time. You do not need to take any other form of birth control measures.

What do I do if I have taken a Yaz overdose?

If you have taken a Yaz overdose you should take emergency medical help.

Yaz interactions

There are some drugs which reduce the effect of Yaz and can result in pregnancy. So you must inform your doctor before taking any prescribed or non-prescribed drug, which includes minerals, herbal products and vitamin supplements. Do not start taking any new medicine, without consulting your doctor, while you are taking Yaz.
