What is Xibrom?

Xibrom is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) which is used to treat inflammation of eye in patients who have recently undergone a surgery to remove cataracts.

What is Xibrom used for?

Patients who undergo cataract removal surgery often suffer from post-surgical symptoms such as pain and swelling of eyes. Xibrom is used to treat such conditions. However, this medicine is not available without a prescription and should be used only on instruction from your doctor.

How does Xibrom work?

Xibrom works by inhibiting the production of a substance called prostaglandin. Prostaglandin causes redness, swelling, irritation and other symptoms of inflammation.

How to use Xibrom

Xibrom should be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken after 24 hrs of the surgery and continued for 2 weeks.

Before applying the eye drops, wash your hands properly. This should be done so that the tip of the dropper does not get infected. Xibrom may cause discoloration of contact lenses. Therefore, if you wear contact lenses remove them before using the drop and clarify from your doctor if you can wear them back after application.

To apply the drop, you should tilt your head back slightly, pull down your lower eyelid, look away from the dropper and put 1 drop into the eye. Close your eyes and gently press the inner corner of the eye for 2 - 3 minutes to prevent the drop from going into the tear duct. Maintain a gap of 5 minutes between subsequent drops.

Care should be taken that the dropper does not come in contact with your eyes, hands or any other body surface in order to prevent contamination of the dropper.

Do not increase or stop the dose without consultation with your doctor.

Xibrom warnings and precautions

You should always inform your doctor beforehand if you are allergic to any ingredient of Xibrom or are suffering from any of these disorders: asthma, dry eye syndrome, bleeding disorders, rheumatoid arthritis or if you have had more than one surgery in a short span of time. In such cases, the dosage and intensity of the drug may be altered.

Xibrom may prove to be harmful to a fetus. Hence pregnant and lactating mothers too should consult a physician before taking this medicine.

Do not start taking any new medication without consultation with your doctor.

What do I do if I have missed a Xibrom dose?

If you have missed a Xibrom dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the routine. Do not take extra doses to catch up.

What do I do if I have taken a Xibrom overdose?

If you have taken an overdose of Xibrom, consult your doctor immediately. However, a Xibrom overdose is generally not harmful.

Xibrom interactions

Some drugs which may interact with Xibrom include: aspirin, ibuprofen, warfarin or heparin.

Do not prescribe to a medicine, without consultation with a physician, if you are taking mild aspirins to control heart diseases.

Xibrom side effects

Side effects from Xibrom include allergic reactions such as hives, swelling, or breathing difficulty. Seek emergency medical attention on appearance of such symptoms. Also, stop the medication and contact your doctor if you feel the dug is having adverse effect on your vision.

Itching, redness of eye, eye pain and headache are some common and less serious side effects of Xibrom.
