What is Teveten Plus?
Teveten belongs to a family of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
Teveten Plus is a combination of two drugs, eprosartan (which belongs to a family of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists) and hydrochlorothiazide (which is a diuretic or water pill).
What is Teveten Plus used for?
Teveten and Teveten Plus are indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure or hypertension. Controlling blood pressure helps prevent heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems.
How does Teveten Plus work?
Teveten works by relaxing blood vessels and causing them to widen. This allows the blood to flow more easily.
The two components of Teveten Plus work in different ways. Eprosartan works by relaxing blood vessels and allowing the blood to flow easily, while Hydrochlorothiazide increases the amount of urine, removing extra salt and water from the body.
How to use Teveten Plus
Teveten and Teveten Plus should be taken in the manner prescribed by the doctor. Taking it for longer periods or in larger amounts than recommended can cause health problems.
The drug is usually taken once daily. It can be taken with or without food. To get the best results, take it at the same time each day. Prefer not to take it in the night or at bedtime as it may disturb your night sleep by causing you to urinate more.
It is advisable to drink plenty of fluids during the day time to avoid becoming dehydrated. Do not take salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking this medication. Get your blood pressure checked on a regular basis while using Teveten or Teveten Plus.
Teveten Plus warnings and precautions
Do not use this drug if you are allergic to eprosartan. Prior to taking the medication, tell your doctor if you have congestive heart failure, kidney or liver disease, or if you are dehydrated.
Avoid consuming alcohol or getting up too fast from lying or sitting position in order to prevent a fall.
Pregnant women should not use Teveten or Teveten Plus without consulting their doctors as it can harm a fetus. It may even cause death to an unborn baby, in extreme circumstances. If you plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor in advance. It is advisable that you take effective birth control treatments, while on the prescription period of this medicine. Lactating mothers must consult their doctors before taking Teveten or Teveten Plus as it is unknown if the drug passes through breast milk or could cause harm to a nursing infant.
What do I do if I have missed a Teveten Plus dose?
If you have missed your Teveten or Teveten Plus dose you can take the missed dose as soon as you remember but do not take it if it is time for your next dose.
What do I do if I have taken a Teveten Plus overdose?
If you have taken a Teveten or Teveten Plus overdose you should seek immediate medical attention.
Teveten Plus interactions
Before taking Teveten Plus, consult your doctor if you take diuretic (water pill). Also tell your doctor about the use of vitamins, and other prescription and non prescription drugs that you may be taking. Do not start using a new medicine without consulting your doctor.
Teveten Plus side effects
Teveten and Teveten Plus side effects include breathing difficulty; swelling of face, tongue, lips, throat, hands or feet; chest pain, pain or difficulty while urinating, feeling that you might lose consciousness, or some allergic reactions. If you get any of these side effects after using Teveten Plus, contact your doctor right away.
Sore throat, stuffy or runny nose, cough, pain in the joints, stomach ache, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headache, and fatigue are some less serious side effects from Teveten or Teveten Plus.
