What is Tekturna HCT?
Tekturna is an oral drug which treats hypertension (high blood pressure).
What is Tekturna HCT used for?
Tekturna is indicated for the treatment of hypertension i.e. it lowers high blood pressure. Lowering of blood pressure in turn prevents heart attacks, strokes and kidney problems.
How does Tekturna HCT work?
Tekturna relaxes blood vessels. This allows blood to flow easily and helps lower blood pressure.
How to use Tekturna HCT
Tekturna should be used in the manner prescribed by a doctor. Taking the medicine for longer period or in larger amount than prescribed can be harmful.
The dosage of Tekturna depends on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Tekturna is usually taken orally once a day unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor. It may be taken with or without food. But whichever way you choose, it is important continue taking the medicine in the same way for the rest of the treatment.
Tekturna should be taken regularly, preferably at the same time for maximum benefit. It takes around two weeks to get the full benefit of the medication.
In case you do not notice any improvement in your condition or your condition worsens, consult your doctor immediately.
Tekturna HCT warnings and precautions
Tekturna is not administered to patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Prior to taking the medication inform your doctor if you are allergic to any other drug or have any of the following conditions: heart disease, gout, kidney disease (on dialysis or not). Also let your doctor know if you are on a low-salt diet.
If you need to undergo a surgery, tell your surgeon about the use of this medication, in advance.
Effects of Tekturna on breast milk or a nursing baby are yet to be determined. It is however believed to be harmful to an unborn baby. Therefore, pregnant and lactating women are advised to take this medicine only after taking doctor’s permission. Also inform your doctor if you plan to become pregnant during treatment.
What do I do if I have missed a Tekturna HCT dose?
If you have missed a Tekturna dose, take it as soon as you remember. If, however, it is time for your next dose the missed dose can be skipped. You should not take an extra dose to make up a missed dose.
What do I do if I have taken a Tekturna HCT overdose?
If you have taken an overdose of Tekturna, consult your doctor immediately.
Tekturna HCT interactions
Some drugs which may interact with Tekturna include: cyclosporine; atorvastatin; fluconazole, itraconazole, or ketoconazole (anti-fungal medicine); furosemide; diuretics; and salt substitutes which contain potassium.
Other drugs may also interact with Tekturna. So, it is necessary to inform your doctor about all the prescription/non prescription drugs that you are taking, before taking Tekturna. Also tell your doctor if you are taking any herbal medicine or vitamin and mineral supplements.
You should not start taking any new medicine, without consulting your doctor.
Tekturna HCT side effects
Side effects from Tekturna include nausea, slow or uneven heart rate, weak pulse, light-headedness, fainting, or swelling around eyes. Contact your doctor immediately in such situations. Seek emergency medical help on appearance of such allergic symptoms.
Itching or skin rash, stomach pain, stomach upset, diarrhea, heartburn, back pain, joint pain or swelling; headache, dizziness, tired feeling; or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough are some less serious side effects of Tekturna.
