What is Solian?

Solian belongs to a class of drugs called antipsychotics.

What is Solian used for?

Solian is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia (a condition which affects your thinking and actions). The medicine helps treat symptoms of the disease such as depression, anxiety, hallucinations, delusion, unusual suspiciousness, and emotional and social withdrawal.

How does Solian work?

Solian works by affecting the actions of certain chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. These chemicals are responsible for transmitting messages between the nerve cells. The medicine blocks the receptors that dopamine (a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and behavior) acts on. This further prevents excessive activity of dopamine and helps control psychotic problems.

How to use Solian

Solian should be taken in the same manner as prescribed by the doctor. Taking it for longer periods or in larger amounts than recommended can cause health problems. The instructions on the prescription label must be followed wisely for better results.

Although the dosage is based on individual response, the medicine is usually taken once daily or as directed by the doctor.

Take each tablet with a full glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole. If you have trouble swallowing the tablet, mix the medicine with small amount of water and drink it right away.

Remember to take the medicine at the same time each day.

Solian warnings and precautions

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to Solian or to any of its ingredients. Also, the medication should not be taken by people who have or have had phaeochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumor), pituitary gland tumor, liver disease or breast cancer. The medicine is strictly not to be used by children.

Prior to taking Solian, share your medical history with your doctor. This is essential particularly when you have liver disease, seizures, or Parkinson’s disease. Inform your doctor if you suffer from lactose intolerance.

Pregnant women are advised to not use Solian without consulting their doctor. Lactating females must not use Solian.

What do I do if I have missed a Solian dose?

If you have missed your Solian dose, you should take it as soon as you remember about it. However, if it is time for your next regularly scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your schedule.

What do I do if I have taken a Solian overdose?

If you have taken a Solian overdose, call the doctor immediately.

Solian interactions

Before using Solian, tell your doctor about all prescription and non prescription drugs that you use especially heart rhythm medications such as quinidine, amiodarone, sotalol, disopyramide; antibiotics such as pentamidine, erythromycin; medicine used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease such as levodopa, an antipsychotic medicine such as thioridazone, or pain relievers such as methadone.

You should also tell your doctor about herbal medications, and vitamin or mineral supplements that you may be using, before being prescribed with Solian. Do not start taking any new medication without telling your doctor.

Solian side effects
