Sialor is a saliva-stimulant used to treat certain symptoms of dry mouth. The medicine also has positive effects on drug-induced asialias.
Sialor is commonly prescribed for Sjgren’s syndrome, which is a chronic disease wherein moisture-producing glands are attacked by WBCs (white blood cells).
What is Sialor used for?
Sialor is used to treat the oral symptoms of a condition called Xerostomia. This condition occurs due to drug-induced hyposialosis which is caused by certain drugs such as tranquillizers, neuroleptics, synthetic antiparkinsonian agents and antidepressants or due to a course of radiotherapy of head and neck.
How does Sialor work?
Sialor works by stimulating the secretion of saliva and increasing salivary flow-rate. It also exhibits chemopreventive properties.
How to use Sialor
Sialor should be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Sialor is usually taken thrice a day, before meals. In case of drug related hyposialosis, the treatment may be intermittent. However, for hyposialosis induced by radiotherapy, the treatment may continue indefinitely.
It takes several days to notice the positive effects of the drug. Hence do not stop the medication or increase the dose unless instructed by your doctor.
