What is Sanctura XR?
Sanctura is an antispasmodic and antimuscarinic agent which relieves bladder spasms.
What is Sanctura XR used for?
Sanctura is indicated for the treatment of overactive bladder and helps reduce leaking of urine, frequent urination and urgent need to urinate.
How does Sanctura XR work?
Sanctura works by relaxing the bladder muscles and thus, helps decrease urinary spasms and frequency.
How to use Sanctura XR
Sanctura should be used in the manner prescribed by a doctor. Taking the medicine for longer period or in larger amount than prescribed can be harmful.
The dosage of Sanctura depends on your age, kidney and liver function, medical condition and response to treatment.
Sanctura is usually taken orally, twice a day. It is advised that you take it one hour before a meal or on an empty stomach, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor. Drink extra fluid while taking the medicine. Sanctura should be taken regularly, preferably at the same time each day, for maximum benefit.
Do not stop taking the medicine unless directed by your doctor.
Sanctura XR warnings and precautions
Sanctura is not administered to patients who are allergic to trospium, or who have uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma that has not been treated, or blockage in digestive system. Sanctura is also not prescribed if the patient has trouble in urinating.
Prior to taking the medication inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: glaucoma, liver or kidney disease, ulcerative colitis (a stomach or intestinal disorder), myasthenia gravis (a muscle disorder), or enlarged prostate.
Though the effect of trospium on breast milk and subsequently on a nursing baby is not known yet, lactating women should seek prior permission from their doctors about whether to take the drug or not. Pregnant women are advised to take this medicine only after taking doctor’s permission. Also inform your doctor if you plan to become pregnant during treatment.
What do I do if I have missed a Sanctura XR dose?
If you have missed a Sanctura dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, the missed dose can be skipped and you can continue with the normal routine. Do not take extra dose.
What do I do if I have taken a Sanctura XR overdose?
If you have taken an overdose of Sanctura, consult your doctor immediately.
Sanctura XR interactions
Some drugs which may interact with Sanctura include: atropine, glycopyrrolate (Robinul), dicyclomine (Bentyl), mepenzolate (Cantil), hyoscyamine, morphine, metformin (Glucophage), propantheline (Pro-Banthine), scopolamine, methscopolamine (Pamine), tenofovir (Viread), procainamide, or vancomycin.
Other drugs may also interact with Sanctura. So, it is necessary to inform your doctor about all the prescription and non prescription drugs, including herbal medicines and vitamin or mineral supplements that you may be taking, before taking Sanctura.
You should not start taking any new medicine, without consulting your doctor.
Sanctura XR side effects
Side effects from Sanctura include allergic reactions such as hives, breathing difficulty, swelling of face, tongue, lips, or throat. Seek medical help immediately if any of these allergic symptoms appear. Also, consult your doctor in case of unlikely but serious side-effects such as eye pain, difficulty in urinating and fast heartbeat.
Dry mouth, dryness in throat, gas, bloating, stomach ache, constipation, dry eyes, vision blurriness, drowsiness, and mild skin rash are some less serious side effects of Sanctura.
