What is Robaxacet?

Robaxacet (Methocarbamol and Acetaminophen) is a central muscle relaxant and pain reliever.  The acetaminophen in Robaxacet acts as a pain reliever and Methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant.


What is Robaxacet used for?

Robaxacet is prescribed along with rest and physical therapy to relieve pain in patients who experience skeletal muscle spasms or associated disorder.


How does Robaxacet work?

Robaxacet prevents the transmission of pain to the brain by pain transmitters or sensory nerve impulses.  It also acts as a muscle relaxant.


How to use Robaxacet

Robaxacet should be used in the manner prescribed by a doctor or as directed by your pharmacist. Taking the medicine in larger amount or for longer time than prescribed or recommended on the packaging may prove to be harmful. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Robaxacet is usually taken orally four times a day. In severe conditions the dose may be increased and you may have to take the medicine for 3-4 days.

You should take the first dose of Robaxacet in the morning before having anything but plain water.  You should not take this drug with any fluid other than plain water. Also, take the medicine only when you are in a sitting or standing position.

Also, avoid lying down or having any food or drink other than water within 30 minutes of taking Robaxacet.

Do not increase or stop your dose unless otherwise directed by your doctor. However, if your condition does not improve at all or becomes worse, consult your doctor immediately.


Robaxacet warnings and precautions

Robaxacet is not administered to patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Before taking the medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions, especially if you are allergic to any other drug or if you have kidney or liver diseases.

Robaxacet should be taken only with water and not with juice, milk, coffee, tea or other dairy drinks.

You should avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine as alcohol may aggravate certain side effects of the drug.

The drug may cause dizziness and hence you should avoid activities such as driving which needs complete alertness and clear vision.

This drug is not recommended for children less than 12 years of age.

Robaxacet is believed to have harmful effects on a fetus. It is, also, believed to pass through breast milk. Therefore, pregnant and lactating women are advised to discuss the possible risks and benefits of taking the drug with their doctors.


What do I do if I have missed a Robaxacet dose?

If you have missed a Robaxacet dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. If, however, it is the next day, then the missed dose can be skipped. Do not take a double dose.


What do I do if I have taken a Robaxacet overdose?

If you have taken an overdose of Robaxacet, seek emergency medical attention.


Robaxacet interactions

Some drugs which may interact with Robaxacet are: sleeping pills, medication for seizures, anxiety and myasthenia gravis, tacrine, donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, physostogmine, neuro muscle blocker, anti-histamic drugs, or pyridostigmine.

Other drugs may also interact with Robaxacet. Hence it is necessary to inform your doctor about all the prescription/non prescription drugs/herbal medicines that you are taking, before using Robaxacet. You should not start taking any new medicine, without consulting your doctor.


Robaxacet side effects

Side effects from Robaxacet include allergic reactions such as swelling of tongue, face, throat, hives, redness of skin etc. as well as some serious symptoms such as delirium, loss of coordination, vertigo, thrombocytopenic purpura, bradycardia, seizures, hemolytic anemia, or jaundice.

Nausea, dizziness, drowsiness are some common and less serious side effects of Robaxacet.
