What is Prometrium?

Prometrium contains the active ingredient progesterone.  Progesterone is similar to the naturally produced hormone in females called progestin.

What is Prometrium used for?

Prometrium is prescribed to the females whose body cannot produce enough of progestin required for regulation of menstrual cycle. It is also used to reduce the risk of uterus cancer when added to estrogen therapy.

Prometrium works by substituting the functioning of progestin in the body.

How to use Prometrium

It is important to take this medicine only if your doctor prescribes you. It is for oral administration and should be swallowed whole, but if you have issues doing so, take it with a full glass of water.

Abide by the instructed schedule and do not experiment with the doses. This is advised because medication is prescribed after taking into account your age, medical conditions and response of the body to the drug.

For any queries related to the use of this medicine, check with your physician and read the instruction leaflet.

Prometrium warnings and precautions

Pregnant and lactating mothers should consult their doctors before starting with of Prometrium doses, in order to avoid any health complications to the mother or child.

If you have missed your Prometrium dose, you should take it right away. You can skip the dose if it is nearly time for your next dose, as it is not recommended to take two doses at a time for catching up with the missed dose.
