What is Prandin?

Prandin is a meglitinide antidiabetic medicine.

What is Prandin used for?

Prandin is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but does not work in case of type 1 diabetes. The patients, who are unable to control their blood sugar levels with exercise and diet alone, undergo this treatment.

How does Prandin work?

Prandin works by kindling the release of insulin from the pancreas. It actually lessens the amount of glucose in the body.

How to use Prandin

Follow the directions given by the doctor regarding dosage and in case of any other queries, go through the information leaflet enclosed within.

Prandin is to be taken by mouth every day. A gap of 15 to 30 minutes must be maintained before each meal. Whenever you go for an extra meal, make sure that you take a tablet after it. However, there is no need to take an extra tablet for a missed meal.

Prandin warnings and precautions

Prandin is believed to cause dizziness and the effect is said to increase with the intake of alcohol, so try and avoid liquor.

Follow your regular diet and exercise schedule, and make sure you do not miss any of the lab tests recommended by the physician. These tests are essential to keep a check on the risk of side effects.

Prandin is said to alter the level of blood sugar in your body. It is advised that you carry a steadfast source of glucose for instant treatment.

It is likely that you might face some problems in controlling your blood sugar level. Consult your doctor and ask him some ways to keep up with it.

As the safety and effectiveness of Prandin on children has yet not been verified, therefore, extra care should be taken when dealing with minors.

Pregnant and lactating women must talk to their doctors about the risks involved.

What do I do if I have missed a Prandin dose?

If you have missed your Prandin dose you should take it at once. If it’s time for the next dose, skip the missed one and get back to the routine.

What do I do if I have taken a Prandin overdose?

If you have taken a Prandin overdose you should contact the nearest poison control center or talk to your doctor.
