What is Optivar?
Optivar (azelastine) is a sterile ophthalmic solution for topical administration to the eyes. This antihistamine is a relatively selective H1-receptor antagonist.

How to use Optivar
Use Optivar in the manner prescribed by the doctor. Read the instruction leaflet carefully before using the drug. Do not use the medicine for longer period or in larger amount than prescribed.
Before using these eye drops, wash your hands. Tilt your head back slightly and then look upwards. Pull down your lower eyelid and pour a drop into it. Close your eyes and do not let the medicine drain out of the tear duct. Do not rub or blink your eyes after putting the eye drops.
Do not forget to remove contact lenses, before using Optivar and wait for 10 minutes before putting the lenses back as it contains preservatives that can be absorbed by contact lenses.
Optivar is used usually twice a day. If you have to use some other eye medicine as well, then wait for 15 minutes. Use eye drops before an eye ointment. Each bottle is used within one month after being opened.
