What is Norpace CR?

Norpace is a drug which affects the heartbeat. It belongs to a class of drugs known as anti-arrhythmics.

Norpace is used in the treatment of certain fatal heartbeat irregularities such as ventricular tachycardia. It is used to normalize the irregularities and maintain a steady and normal heartbeat.

How does Norpace CR work?

Norpace works by blocking certain electrical signals from the heart, which are responsible for irregular heartbeats. It also prevents the formation of clots inside the valves of the heart, thereby reducing the risk for a heart attack.

How to use Norpace CR

Norpace should be used exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Taking the medicine for longer period or in larger amount than prescribed can be harmful.

Norpace tablets are designed in a manner where they can act slowly. Hence, it is strictly prohibited to chew or cut the tablet. It should always be swallowed whole along with a full glass of water.

Do not change the dosage or the timings without any medical supervision.

Before taking Norpace, you should always discuss with your doctor if you have had any other type of heart, liver or kidney disease or any history of urinary problems or glaucoma.

Use caution when driving, operating machines and other dangerous works. Norpace can sometimes cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Limit the use of alcohol while you are on the prescription period of Norpace. Alcohol increases side effects of this medicine.

What do I do if I have missed a Norpace CR dose?

If you have missed a Norpace dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the routine. Do not double your next dose in order to compensate for the missed one as this could lead to serious consequences.

What do I do if I have taken a Norpace CR overdose?

If you have taken an overdose of Norpace, medical attention is required immediately.

Norpace CR interactions

Before you start taking Norpace, you should inform your doctor if you are using any calcium channel blockers like diltiazem or verapamil. Other drugs like Rifampin, Phenytoin and Phenobarbital may affect the amount of Norpace in the body and hence its effectiveness.

Most importantly you should not stop or alter the dosages without consulting with your doctor.

Norpace CR side effects

Side effects from Norpace include difficulty in breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face. A new or a worsening irregular heartbeat pattern can also be experienced while taking this drug. You may also experience chest pain, shortness of breath and severe dizziness. In such cases, immediate medical attantion is required. Apart from these you may also witness a mild dizziness, feel tired or have a prolonged headache. Your vision can sometimes go blurred and you may face difficulty in urinating. Drying of mouth, itches and muscle cramps are some less serious side effects of Norpace.
