What is Nizoral?
Nizoral shampoo (ketoconazole) is an azole antifungal.
What is Nizoral used for?
Nizoral shampoo is used to control dandruff. The shampoo may help relieve scaling, flaking and itching associated with dandruff. It is also indicated for the treatment of a certain skin condition called tinea versicolor (pityriasis), which is responsible for darkening or lightening of the skin of the neck, arms, legs or chest.

How to use Nizoral
Nizoral shampoo should be used in the manner prescribed by a doctor. Read instructions given with product package carefully.
The dosage of Nizoral shampoo depends on your skin condition and response to treatment.
Before applying the shampoo, moisten hair and scalp with water. Then apply sufficient amount of shampoo and gently massage your scalp. Leave the shampoo on for 5minutes. Afterwards, rinse your hair and scalp thoroughly and dry your hair.
Do not bring the shampoo in contact with your eyes, nose and mouth. In case of accidental contact rinse the area with water. Contact your doctor if complications arise.
If you do not see any improvement in your symptoms or if your condition worsens on application of the shampoo contact your doctor immediately.
Nizoral warnings and precautions
Nizoral shampoo is not to be used by patients who are allergic to ketoconazole and to other azole antifungals such as miconazole, econazole or clotrimazole.
Nizoral shampoo may result in loss of curls when applied on permanently curled hair.
Nizoral shampoo should be used on children with extreme caution as they may be more sensitive to its side effects.
What do I do if I have missed a Nizoral dose?
If you have missed a Nizoral shampoo dose, use it as soon as you remember. If, however, it is time for your next application, the missed one can be skipped.
What do I do if I have taken a Nizoral overdose?
If you have taken an overdose of Nizoral shampoo, consult your doctor.
Nizoral interactions
Some drugs may interact with Nizoral shampoo if any amount of the shampoo is absorbed into the blood. So, it is necessary to inform your doctor about all the prescription/non prescription drugs/herbal medicines/lotions and shampoos that you are using, before using Nizoral shampoo.
You should not start taking any new medicine, without consulting your doctor.
Nizoral side effects
Side effects from Nizoral shampoo include abnormal hair texture, irritation on the scalp, discoloration, pimple like bumps on the scalp. Contact your doctor right away if any of these occur.
Mild irritation, stinging or itching are some less serious side effects of Nizoral shampoo.
