What is Manerix?

Manerix is an antidepressant that belongs to a class of drugs known as monoamine oxidase inhibitor or MAOI.


What is Manerix used for?

Manerix is indicated for the treatment of depression.


How does Manerix work?

Manerix works by blocking the action of certain chemical substances, called monoamine oxidase, in the nervous system.


How to use Manerix

Manerix should be taken in the manner prescribed by the doctor. Taking it for longer period or in larger amount than recommended can cause health problems.

The drug is consumed orally and is usually taken immediately after meals. Remember to take the medicine at the same time each day.


Manerix warnings and precautions

Before taking Manerix, tell your doctor if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the past 2 weeks.

Prior to taking Manerix, share your medical history with your doctor, especially if it consists of some allergies to medicines, liver disease or hypertension (high blood pressure).

Pregnant and lactating women are advised to consult their doctors before taking Manerix dose, else it may harm an unborn or a nursing baby.


What do I do if I have missed a Manerix dose?

If you have missed your Manerix dose you can take the missed dose as soon as you remember but do not take it if it is time for your next dose. Taking a double dose just to catch up is not recommended.


What do I do if I have taken a Manerix overdose?

If you have taken a Manerix overdose you should seek medical attention.


Manerix interactions

Before taking Manerix, consult your doctor if you are taking amitriptyline, amphetamine, amoxapine, atomoxetine, carbamazepine, cyclobenzaprine, desipramine, bupropion, escitalopram, fluoxetine, mazindol, meperidine, Nefopam, Paroxetine, Opipramol, etc. Inform your doctor about all prescription and non prescription dosages that you are on, including some mineral or vitamin supplements that you may be taking.

Also, do not start using any new medicine without consulting your doctor.


Manerix side effects

Manerix side effects include hives or skin rash, neck stiffness, slow heartbeat, pounding or irregular heartbeat, fast or racing heartbeat, severe headache which initiates at the back of the head and then moves forward, anxiety, blurred vision, fainting, dizziness, vision changes, high blood pressure, nervousness, irritability, feeling light headed, problem while getting up from a lying or sitting position, restlessness, unusual weakness, fatigue, aggressive behavior, chest pain, confusion, speaking problem, feeling of being ill, increased frequency of urination, increased sensitivity to light, irregular or prolonged menstrual periods, loss of balance, swelling of the eyes, painful urination, pain while passing stool, ringing in the ears, twisting movements of the body, stomach ache or burning sensation, hallucinations, memory problems and uncontrolled movements of the face, back and neck. If you experience any of these symptoms after taking Manerix, call your doctor immediately.

Mild to moderate headache, mild skin rash, and pressure in the head are some are some less serious and more common side effects of Manerix.
