What is Luxiq Foam?
Luxiq Foam (betamethasone valerate) is a topical corticosteroid which helps in the treatment of various conditions of the scalp.
What is Luxiq Foam used for?
Luxiq Foam is used to treat a various scalp conditions including psoriasis, and seborrhea. It decreases symptoms such as swelling, redness and itching which occur in the abovementioned conditions.
How does Luxiq Foam work?
Luxiq Foam contains a medium-strength corticosteroid which inhibits the actions of chemicals which cause inflammation in the body.
How to use Luxiq Foam
Luxiq Foam should be used in the manner prescribed by a doctor. Using the medication for longer time or in larger amount than prescribed may prove to be harmful. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Wash your hands before applying the foam. Take a small amount of the foam in a clean saucer or on clean cool surface. Do not take the foam directly on your hands as the foam would melt in contact with warm skin. Part your hair and apply the foam in the affected areas of the scalp. Gently massage into the scalp. Repeat the procedure in other affected areas of the scalp. You should take care to cover the entire affected area. Do not cover or wrap your scalp. Avoid wearing shower caps or bathing caps. Wait for sometime before washing the area with water. Wash your hands after using.
Avoid contact of the foam with eyes, nose or mouth. In case of accidental contact, flush with water.
Do not change or stop your dose without consultation with your doctor. However, if your condition does not improve at all or becomes worse consult your doctor immediately.
Luxiq Foam warnings and precautions
Luxiq Foam is not administered to patients who are allergic to betamethasone or any other corticosteroid.
Before taking the medication, inform your doctor about your medical conditions, especially if you are allergic to any other medication or skin product or if you have thinning of skin, chicken pox, shingles, tuberculosis or other skin infections.
Avoid using Luxiq Foam near face, near eyes, nose, or mouth. This medication is meant to be used on scalp only. Do not use this to treat other skin conditions.
You should remember that this medication is not meant to treat bacterial, fungal or viral infections.
Luxiq Foam should be used in children below 12 years with caution. They are more sensitive to the side effects of corticosteroids. Also prolonged use in children and young adolescents may stunt their growth temporarily.
Corticosteroids often make vaccines inactive. Avoid vaccination or immunization while using this medication.
Pregnant and lactating women are advised to discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medication with their doctors.
What do I do if I have missed a Luxiq Foam dose?
If you have missed a Luxiq Foam dose, use it as soon as you remember. If, however, it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose can be skipped. Do not use a double dose.
What do I do if I have taken a Luxiq Foam overdose?
If you have used an overdose of Luxiq Foam, consult your doctor.
Luxiq Foam interactions
Oral corticosteroids may affect the action of Luxiq Foam. Hence it is necessary to inform your doctor about all the skin products/ prescription/ non prescription drugs/herbal medicines that you are using/ taking beforehand.
You should not start using any new topical product without consulting your doctor.
Luxiq Foam side effects
Side effects from Luxiq Foam include allergic reactions such as swelling of tongue, face, throat, hives, redness of skin etc. Seek emergency medical attention on appearance of any of these symptoms. Consult your doctor if you notice any of the following serious side effects after using Luxiq Foam: burning, cracking, peeling or irritation of scalp after using the medication, acne-like rash, inflamed hair follicles, excessive hair growth, muscle weakness, inflammation around mouth, unusual weight gain, especially in face.
Dry scalp, mild stinging or burning sensation are some common and less serious side effects of Luxiq Foam.
