What is Locoid?

Locoid lipocream (hydrocortisone butyrate) is a medium strength corticosteroid. It is a topical medication that reduces swelling and inflammation on the skin.

What is Locoid used for?

Locoid lipocream is indicated for the treatment of various skin conditions e.g. dermatitis, rash, allergies, eczema. The medication helps reduce the swelling, redness, and itching associated with these skin conditions.

Locoid lipocream can also be used to treat seborrheic dermatitis (severe dandruff).

How does Locoid work?

Locoid lipocream works by reducing the action of certain chemicals that cause swelling, redness or inflammation.

How to use Locoid

Use Locoid lipocream in the manner prescribed by the doctor. Read the instruction leaflet very carefully before taking the drug. Do not take the medicine for longer period or in larger amount than prescribed.

Use the cream on skin only, wash and dry hands before using it. Clean and dry the affected area and then apply a thin layer of the medication and rub gently. Ointment is used usually 2-3 times daily. Apply the lotion form 2 times daily or as directed by the doctor. Do not cover the affected area with bandage or any other material unless asked by the doctor to do so. Do not apply on face, groin or underarms. Avoid getting the medicine into your eyes.

Locoid warnings and precautions

Do not take Locoid lipocream if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. It is to be noted that the medication should not be used to treat viral, bacterial or fungal infections.

Avoid usage if there is an infection or sore in the area to be treated.  Locoid lipocream should not be used on windburned, sunburned, irritated or broken skin.

Pregnant and lactating women should consult their doctors before using Locoid lipocream.

What do I do if I have missed a Locoid dose?

If you have missed a Locoid lipocream dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the routine.

What do I do if I have taken a Locoid overdose?

If you have taken an overdose of Locoid lipocream or if you have swallowed the medicine by mistake, consult your doctor right away.

Locoid interactions

Before taking Locoid lipocream, the doctor should be informed of all the medications that you are using, especially if you are taking corticosteroids (orally). Do not start taking any new medicine without consulting your doctor.
