What is Jalyn?
Jalyn is a prescription drug that contains tamsulosin-a known alpha blocker, and dutasteride.
What is Jalyn used for?
Jalyn is indicated for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with enlarged prostate. The drug provides relief for those suffering from classic BPH symptoms like the urge to urinate frequently, difficulty in passing urine and urination with a weak flow.
How does Jalyn work?
Jalyn contains two active ingredients: Dutasteride and Tamsulosin. Dutasteride reduces the size of the enlarged prostrate and Tamsulosin eases the urination process by loosening the muscles in the bladder and prostrate area.
How to use Jalyn
Use Jalyn in the manner prescribed by the doctor. Read the instruction leaflet very carefully before taking the drug. Do not take the medicine for longer period or in larger amount than prescribed.
As directed by a health care professional, you should take this drug 30 minutes after your meal. Jalyn has to be orally ingested. The pill is to be swallowed whole without crushing, chewing or opening the capsule. For best effect take the medication regularly.
Remember to take the medicine at the same time each day.
Jalyn warnings and precautions
Do not take Jalyn if you are allergic to tamsulosin, dutasteride or any other ingredient of Jalyn. Patients with a history of allergic reactions should also be careful while using this drug. One should consult a doctor before going ahead with this medication.
Jalyn is known to cause spells of dizziness and lightheadedness; therefore, one should avoid activities that demand intense concentration levels while using this drug. The intake of alcohols should also be limited during the course of this treatment. You should also inform your doctor and your dentist about your medication to avoid complications during surgery.
You should not donate blood during the course of this treatment and for six months following the treatment.
Pregnant females should not take this drug as it may cause harm to a fetus.
What do I do if I have missed a Jalyn dose?
If you have missed a Jalyn dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the routine.
What do I do if I have taken a Jalyn overdose?
If you have taken an overdose of Jalyn, consult your doctor right away.
Jalyn interactions
Some drugs are known to interact with Jalyn causing serious side effects. These include alpha blockers like terazosin and prazosin, drugs for treating erectile problems and pulmonary hypertension like sildenafil, vardenafil and tadalafil.
The efficiency of this drug can also be reduced if used in combination with azole antifungals like ketoconazole, HIV protease inhibitors such as ritonavir, telithromycin etc. Your doctor should be informed if you are using products that cause drowsiness, alcohol, antihistamines, muscle relaxants and narcotics.
Do not start taking any new medicine, without consulting your doctor.
Jalyn side effects
Side effects from Jalyn include dizziness, drowsiness, sexual problems, lightheadedness, enlarged breasts, tenderness in the breast etc. You should consult a doctor promptly if these symptoms persist for a length of time. Fainting is another side that should not be ignored as it may lead to serious ramifications. Sometimes usage of this drug causes prolonged erection for more than four hours. If this happens, the usage of this drug should be stopped immediately. Other side-effects that should be taken into consideration include rashes, swelling, breathing trouble etc.
