Evoclin (Clindamycin Phosphate)

Evoclin
(also known as Evoclin Foam)
Evoclin
(also known as Evoclin Foam)
Evoclin
(also known as Evoclin Foam)

What is Evoclin?

Evoclin is a topical antibiotic with clindamycin as main component.

What is Evoclin used for?

Evoclin is used in the treatment of a skin condition known as acne vulgaris.

How does Evoclin work?

Clindamycin, the main component of Evoclin, is an antibiotic. It prevents the growth of acne causing bacteria and thus helps in reducing the number of acne lesions.

How to use Evoclin

Evoclin should be used in the manner prescribed by a doctor. Using the medication in larger amounts may increase side effects. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Wash your hands before applying the medication. Clean and dry the affected area.

The medication comes in three forms: lotion, medical wipes and foam.

If you are using the lotion shake the bottle well before use. Then apply a small amount of the medication on the affected area. Apply an even layer and rub gently in to the skin.

If you are using a medical pad, wipe the affected area gently with the wipe and then discard it.

For the foam, instead of spraying directly on the affected skin, spray on a cool surface and then apply on the skin. This is done to prevent the foam from melting on contact with warm skin.

Avoid using the medication on irritated, sunburned, windburned, broken, and chapped skin. Do not bring the medication in contact with eyes, nose or mouth.

Avoid using other topical products on the affected area without permission from your doctor.

It may take several weeks for your conditions to improve. Continue using the medication regularly for best results.

Do not stop your dose unless otherwise directed by your doctor. However, if your condition does not improve at all or becomes worse consult your doctor immediately.

Evoclin warnings and precautions

Evoclin is not administered to patients who are allergic to clindamycin.

Although Evoclin is a topical medicine, clindamycin may be absorbed into the blood in enough amounts and complications may arise. Hence patients who are suffering from enteritis (inflammation of intestines) or ulcerative colitis or have a history of severe diarrhea caused by antibiotics may be advised against using this medication.

Avoid using more than one acne medication at the same time as this can result in severe skin irritation. Do not smoke while you are using Evoclin foam.

This medication is not recommended for children below 12 years of age.

Evoclin is unlikely to cause harm to a fetus, but pregnant women are advised to consult their doctors before taking this medication. Also inform your doctor if you become pregnant during treatment. Effects of the medication on a nursing baby are not known for certain. Therefore, lactating women are advised to discuss the possible risks and benefits of using Evoclin with their doctors.

What do I do if I have missed a Evoclin dose?

If you have missed an Evoclin dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If, however, it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose can be skipped.

What do I do if I have taken a Evoclin overdose?

If you have used an overdose of Evoclin, consult your doctor immediately.

Evoclin interactions

Topical and oral erythromycin can interact with Evoclin.

It is necessary to inform your doctor about all topical products /prescription/non prescription drugs/herbal medicines that you are using, before using Evoclin.

You should not start using a skin product or medication without consulting your doctor.

Evoclin side effects

Side effects from Evoclin include allergic reactions such as swelling of tongue, face, throat, hives, redness of skin etc. Seek emergency medical attention on appearance of such symptoms. Also, consult your doctor if you notice severe redness, burning or peeling of the treated skin or if you have bloody or watery diarrhea.
