What is Evamist pump?

Evamist, a transdermal spray, is a synthetic form of the female hormone estrogen.

What is Evamist pump used for?

Evamist is used to relieve severe vasomotor symptoms caused by menopause. Such symptoms are known as hot flashes and are characterized by excessive sweating and intense feeling of warmth.

How does Evamist pump work?

Estradiol is the principal intracellular estrogen in a female body and it plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of the female reproductive system. Estrone and estriol are two other metabolites of estrogen found in circulation. However, estradiol is the most potent form of estrogen. Post-menopause, the only forms of estrogen available in the female body are the circulation estrogens, estrone and estriol. In absence of estradiol severe vasomotor symptoms are observed in post-menopausal women. Evamist being a synthetic form of estradiol fills the absence of naturally occurring estradiol and relieves these symptoms.

How to use Evamist pump

Evamist should be used in the manner prescribed by a doctor. Using the spray in larger amounts is not desirable. The dosage depends on your medical condition and response to treatment. Read and follow instructions given along with the product package.

Evamist should be applied on clean, dry and unbroken skin only. The spray is usually applied on the inside of the forearm, exactly below the elbow.  Place the cone of the spray applicator directly on the skin and pump one spray. For subsequent sprays choose a different place in the same region. You should not rub the spray. Allow it to dry for two minutes. Avoid washing the area for at least 30 minutes after application of the spray.

Use exactly the number of sprays your doctor has indicated. Never use the spray on your breasts or on skin that is irritated or red.

You should self-examine your breasts for lumps while using Evamist spray. Also have regular physical exams done.

Do not stop your dose unless otherwise directed by your doctor. However, if your condition does not improve at all or becomes worse consult your doctor immediately.
