What is Duovent UDV?

Duovent is a combination drug containing two drugs, ipratropium and fenoterol.  Duovent belongs to a class of drugs called bronchodilators.

What is Duovent UDV used for?

Duovent is indicated for the treatment of acute asthma attack or COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

How does Duovent UDV work?

Duovent works by relaxing muscles and causing airways to widen. This improves breathing and helps prevent further breathing problems.

How to use Duovent UDV

Duovent should be taken in the manner prescribed by the doctor. It is usually used in a nebulizer. The recommended dose for patients aged 12 years and above is 4 ml (one unit dose vial) of ipratropium - fenoterol solution, which is to be inhaled via nebulizer.

You may repeat the treatment after six hours, if required. If your doctor has prescribed you a dose less than 4 ml, then you should use a syringe to transfer the required amount to the nebulizer chamber.

If the recommended dose is less than 2 ml, you should use a sterile, preservative free saline or other suitable nebulizer solution to make the total volume exceed 2 ml.

Since the solution does not contain preservatives, you should discard any solution left in the plastic vial.

Duovent UDV warnings and precautions

Do not use Duovent if you are allergic to its ingredients or to sympathomimetic or atropinic medications. Patients with certain heart conditions such as hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy or abnormal heart rhythms associated with fast heart rate should not use this medication. The medicine should not be used by children who are below 12 years of age.

Pregnant and lactating females should consult their doctors before taking Duovent.

Do not dispose of the medication in wastewater or in household garbage. Follow your pharmacist’s directions on how to properly dispose of the medication that has expired or is no longer needed.

What do I do if I have missed a Duovent UDV dose?

If you have missed your Duovent dose you can take the missed dose as soon as you remember but do not take it if it is time for your next dose. Do not take double dose just to catch up.

What do I do if I have taken a Duovent UDV overdose?

If you have taken a Duovent overdose, you should seek medical attention.
