What is Differin Cream?

Differin or adapalene is a topical medicine (that is applied on the skin). It is similar to vitamin A.

What is Differin Cream used for?

Differin is prescribed to people, who are at least 12 years old, and are suffering from severe acne or some other skin related problems.

How does Differin Cream work?

Differin works by retarding the growth of acne on the skin where it is applied. It basically decreases the acne formation and allows the skin to renew gradually.

How to use Differin Cream

Follow the instructions given to you by your doctor for the application of Differin. Generally, a thin layer is applied either on the entire face or on the part of the skin that is infected.

Differin should be applied once a day and make sure that you wash your hands before applying it. Also, clean your affected skin with soap and clean water, before using Differin.

Do not use it in or around eyes, nose and mouth.

Differin Cream warnings and precautions

It is strictly recommended that you should avoid going out in the sun, when you have applied Differin.

Apply it very carefully and do not use it near the nose, eyes and mouth. In case, it happens, wash the areas with clean water. Avoid using any skin products, especially the ones containing alpha hydroxy or glycolic acid, while using Differin.

Harsh soaps, shampoos, skin cleansers, skin coloring or hair coloring chemicals and other skin products that have alcohol, should not be used on the skin, which is being treated with Differin.

What do I do if I have missed a Differin Cream dose?

If you have missed your Differin dose, you should apply it as soon as possible, but skip the missed one if it is almost time for your second dose.

What do I do if I have taken a Differin Cream overdose?

If you have taken a Differin overdose, you should get in touch with your doctor. Do not apply anything else, unless a doctor suggests it.

Differin Cream interactions

The possibility of any drug’s (taken orally or injected) interaction with Differin is very low, the reason being its topical application.

However, taking even a tiniest of chance with your facial skin can cost you a lot, so it is highly advised that you should tell your doctor about all prescribed or non prescribed drugs that you are taking, while using Differin. Also, let your medical expert know if you are undergoing any treatment for the same problem or some other infections.

If you are taking some vitamin and mineral supplements, or some herbal medications, avoid using it without the direction of a doctor.

Differin Cream side effects

The most common Differin side effects include mild burning, warmth, stinging, itching, redness and skin irritation.

As the medicine is applied on the skin of face, which is very sensitive, it is important that the doctor prescribing Differin knows about your skin and your medical history, in detail. This is because no one can predict the possible side effects of Differin on your skin better than an informed physician.

It is normal if in the initial weeks of its usage, you come across some redness on your skin, or dry and scaly skin; however, if these symptoms persist and start bothering you, you must contact your skin specialist. In some cases, hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, have also been reported.
